Predictions in the other thread, I hope the bonus Q is clear enough.....

Ho hum..... I chose a bonus question whereby I hoped that it gave a better chance of people getting an extra point. Maybe it was too easy as everyone who made a prediction has picked up a bonus point! Between us, we picked the 2 slowest qualifiers who are both in Williams cars. In the speedtrap data I saw earlier in the week=end (not sure if it included Q3 or not), they were 4th and 8th fastest so it really does look like there is a fundamental problem with getting their cars to go round corners

Stellar quali lap by Hamilton, he is just on it at the moment in a car which is apparently slower than the Ferrari.
Like him or loath him, he could well go down as the greatest ever.
Let's hope Max doesn't do something stupid at the start.

Should Hamilton fluff the start I fully expect Max to do something more than daft.

Pole was another one of those "Where was the hat out of which he pulled that from"?
F/Lap in the race was by Magnussen on lap 50 and he finished 2 laps down at the end ! Either everyone was driving to conserve some or all of their car, or Magnussen was sandbagging the entire week-end until late in the race!

What seemed to me, to be a tyre management session rather than a race, Perez got off lightly after his dodgem tactics but the whole thing was quite messy. I noted the appointment of channel 4 to show all races but highlights only with the British GP live. Not sure what to make of that apart from the Sky commitment to host a free channel and channel 4 being involved already being a cheaper option for Sky. I am guessing the current team will continue.

I didn’t know whether to be amazed or annoyed by a lap like Hamilton’s on Saturday. It was utterly perfect, on a human-level it surely doesn’t get better than that. On the other hand, the braking distances were ridiculously short, and the time spend in the corners makes it look like the video has been fast-forward. This is why we need DRS and dodgy tyres for overtaking, otherwise we wouldn’t see much action. Slowing the cars down sounds like a step in the wrong direction, but its needed to have sustainable, more natural racing.
I still feel sorry for Ocon. F1 isn’t a place for pity, but Ocon deserves to be in F1 next year. While both drivers belong to Merc, Williams would do well to sign both Ocon and George Russell next year. Young talent needs a chance; they would instantly gain credibility after their 2018 pay drivers. Good drivers won’t solely catapult Williams up the grid, but if they can make gains with their 2019 car, they’ll have a couple of genuine stars to extract the most out of the car. Team Stroll can be the home of pay drivers.

I’m not sure about going back to steel. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for increasing braking zones, but I think that can be achieved by cutting downforce rather than going back to older technology. The 2018 IndyCar has a lot less downforce on road courses, but carbon brakes were retained. The braking distances have increased considerably, the road courses are a real treat to watch.
