Not sure asbout that myself but with the popularity of SUV it makes sense that this is the first launch.

Sounds like a bit of a rush job to avoid getting left behind. Seems to be a modded ICE platform rather then a designed for it platform. Not as much range as Tesla / Jag. Weights an awful lot.
I expect it will sell really well.

I expect it will sell really well. Yes, doesn’t appear to move things forward at all, could have (and should have) been much better. I’m looking forward to the Taycan.

The original A2 and A class were ground breaking but current methodology seems to be, "Whatever but make it an SUV". Jag, BMW and Volvo seem to be much further ahead than Merc for the moment.

I wonder why the distance figures are NEDC testing figures, as of this month we are WLTP; I guess the distance is greater under NEDC testing.

The trouble is "ground breaking" often, as in the case of the A2 or A-class, doesn't sell. Add in the fact that both were expensive to make means the bean counters start influencing their replacements - and we know SUVs sell.
