Got the documentation through, so it’s time to put my Lindsay’s plate on the Golf. We were going to be over in Milton Keynes last weekend so she spoke to the VW dealer who couldn’t have been less helpful and was actually pretty rude, so he got short shrift and she rang the dealer in Kettering. They said to pop in any time before 2pm ideally on Saturday, but we didn’t make an appointment. We arrived at 11:45 this morning, got offered a coffee etc and a young lady got one of their technicians to make up s9me plates, then he checked the car to get the holes right, drilled them and did a test fit to make sure they were straight. Plates handed over and some spare caps because they always break when you change plates.
Great, really helpful and good service, we’re ready to pay.....”No cost, please accept them with our compliments”.
I was particularly surprised because we didn’t buy the car from them and when I’ve had plates from Porsche and BMW (supplying dealers), they’ve cost about £25.
I know where we’ll be taking it for servicing!

And it shows they were thinking that when they were dealing with your request. Always nice to hear of a company/dealer that gives a hoot.

That is excellent service. Being handy with a drill and screwdriver I've always had my plates made up first so I'm in a position to fit them as soon as the paperwork arrives (and as soon as I've informed my insurers)

For them that's a cheap £25 to win over a new customer. So nice that some companies still think like that. If only it was the normal level of service.

That’s the way to do it. Simple things make an immense difference.
Tell the Dealer Principal at MK what a shower of shit they are and cc VW UK.

It never ceases to amaze me how short-sighted some people in the service industries can be. That said it's such a simple and quick job putting on new plates I've always done it myself rather than faff about with dealers.

They just made them up and drilled the holes, I got the toolbox out and fitted them myself yesterday....did a great job! I did actually, cleaned and polished the area behind the plates including removing what was left of the sticky pads the supplying dealer had used. What surprised me was there were no std fitting holes, front or rear. There is a holder on the front bumper, but the plate was attached using self tappers through it and it was the same at the rear, but straight through the painted plastic bumper.

I don't know what it is but half the Audis I see on the road have wonky rear number plate. Once you start noticing it you can't stop.

I can’t claim credit for it being straight though, just used the existing holes.

Everytime I draw the curtains I see it and the OCD in me kicks in. I want to go over and say something but don't want to appear odd. Or more odd, anyway. His wife came out the front door in a tight t-shirt the other day and I'm sure her tits aren't level as well. We may have to move.
