Be warned if you are heading in or out of west London – in the last two weeks new average speed cameras (they look like SPECS) have popped up on the elevated section of the A4 between Chiswick and the M4 in both directions and including on the eastbound 60mph section of the M4 as you come into London.
Irritatingly, I did not spot them on the way out of London yesterday until the very last gantry (because it's on a give-away yellow pole and the earlier ones are hidden on the existing overhead gantries) and as we were running very late for a lunch, I am now fearing my first NIP.

These are beginning to appear all over the place on main routes into towns and cities. Birmingham now has them on a couple of routes into the city.

I saw these - I drove into town Tuesday and out yesterday. It seems there are average speed cameras on bits of the M3 (or whatever A road it is prior to becoming the M3), A40, and M4 - and that's just on the two routes I use in and out. They are not all very obvious either, nothing like the ones on normal motorways. I've started just doing the speed limit all the time in town, whereas previously on those motorway-like sections of raised multi carriageways I would ignore the crazy 30 and 40 limits - like everyone else...
I hate driving in London, there is always something to catch you out. This time it looks like I read the signs wrong at the car park (Ibis Euston) and the staff there were no help at all. I was supposed to pay for parking in advance by phone or on the app, I paid when I left (which seems vastly more logical to me - how do you know exactly how long you will be in advance)? So presumably in addition to the £46 cost of parking for 26 hours I'll now be fined as well.

There's talk of average speed cameras going on the A9 from Dundee up to Stonehaven. It IS a dangerous road but then despite it being a dual carriageway the junctions are mostly via gaps in the central reservation rather than sliproads with flyovers.
Perhaps if it was upgraded properly (something that should've happened a long time ago) it would be less dangerous?

Update: my wife, who is en-route to Heathrow for a business trip, just texted to say that according to her driver, these new A4 SPECS cameras went live for enforcement today.

I saw these - I drove into town Tuesday and out yesterday. It seems there are average speed cameras on bits of the M3 (or whatever A road it is prior to becoming the M3)..... A316.... it's another farce. When you drive towards London and the M3 ends, the speed limit on the triple carriageway part used to be NSL right through to the 40 mph bit on the dual carriageway with the pub on the left. Over the years the limit on that earlier stretch has been lowered until IIRC bits of it are now 30mph. The only reason I can think of is so that loads of fines can be issued as the authorities needlessly slow people going about their day-to-day business. Fortunately I very rarely go that way any more.
