That looks very complicated and a real achievement when done but I wouldn't have the patience for something like that

I have the patience but not the time! Sorely tempted to ask for proper A4 sized drawings that I could print out on thin card......

It is no more complex than the average plastic model but to each, their own. Only here for giggles and kicks anyway, thanks for the feedback. This is one of the better Samba around.
Sorry Bryan, a little knackerd.

To be honest I'd struggle with all that folding, origami was never my strongest.

I respect the skill and perseverance to achieve such models and love the outputs, please share when you have done it.
Personally it would all unravel when I folded something the wrong way and end up a crumpled mess!!!

I think you're supposed to use a heavier grade paper than the shite offices use.....
Vellum or some such. I've got the patience but no time anymore.

I think I'd end up cutting some bits into the wrong shape or in half.
I made a couple of model kits a few years ago and it encouraged me to buy several more, all of which are still in their boxes. One of my mates saw them and has taken up model-making to a fairly serious extent, using air brushes (with an air extraction system so he doesn't gas himself) and buying extra bits off t'internet to do things like add seatbelts to pilots - in 1:48 scale! - more detailed instruments, etc.
It appears that health & safety regulations have added an extra layer to the difficulty in finishing your models as all the 'good' chemicals have been removed from paint meaning that, for a while, colours such as aluminium were no longer available and white was extremely thin requiring multiple coats to have the proper appearance (I did 5 coats on the underneath of a Phantom befor eI got fed up).
If you're going to do it properly, whatever the medium, you need a lot more patience than I have.

Couple of Spitfires I did a few years ago. 1:72 scale Mk1A This was the first plastic kit I'd built for about 30 years, and was done for a patient of mine! I did much of the actual build with him in his house, but took it home to paint it. I believe he still has it in pride of place in his dresser. This one is a 1:48 MkIX. It's shiny because it's been 'painted' with Kleer floor polish - it helps to get the decals to bed down properly, and to stop them silvering. MkIX again, now covered in matt varnish and weathered. Not my best ever, but I'm pretty happy with it. I currently have a Pacific theatre P47 Thunderbolt on the go. The paint is proving an utter bastard to match - but I will NOT be beaten!

Pride of place in my'collection' to make when I have time and organisation are:- 1:24 Airfix Mosquito FB VI 1:24 Airfix Spitfire MK Vb 1:12 Tamiya Porsche 910 Carrera 10 1:12 Tamiya Porsche 935 Turbo (Martini) 1:12 Tamiya Caterham Super 7 Cycle fender Paper up the yazoo but once the autogyro is done I will have to go back to the E-25 in about 1:12/16 or so but I need more information on that which is hard to find at the best of times. No idea what the plastic models would be worth today but the mossie was £130 many moons ago. I would not touch any of those until I was up to doing a decent job on them, a waste of money otherwise.
That Spitfire is a cracking build, nicely done.

Excellent work on the Spitfire Ian. I just don't have the patience to take them that far, I get the painting done and fail to even add decals!
Mike those kits must be pretty huge, I got a 1:24 Hurricane when I was about 6 and fortunately it was made by a relative who built his own radio controlled gliders. Obviously its suffered over the years but its such a lovely model I'd happily get one to try now. Would probably need an extension to the house to keep them in though.
I've got a 1:18 Tamiya Porsche 935 Turbo in the Martini colours in a box somewhere. It's the only 911 variant I would actively lust after!
EDIT Anyone built any ships?

EDIT Anyone built any ships? I built loads as a boy, but they were all, erm, "bombed" by my dad's .177 BSA air rifle!
I've since built a balsa catamaran and a 39" radio-controlled MTB - neither of which I still own, sadly.

EDIT Anyone built any ships? 3 Coastal patrol boats for the Trinidad and Tobagan Coast Guard, a cross channel ferry, a canal boat and a cabin cruiser that some mad fool was going to cross the Atlantic in. Great work with the Spitfires. I used to love doing the models but did't have the talent or the patience for the painting so they got pressed into service in body in white.

Very good Bob My dad's air rifle accounted for a lot of my Airfix Spitfires, etc.

At about 7 or 8 a friend from the next street got some Airfix kits from a relative who worked at Airfix. The Lancaster was a bit wonky so several rockets (November 5th) were attached to the wings and it was launched. Someone several streets along went nuts at the resulting mess getting stuck to his roof. I only saw it going vertical with three rockets burning and one fizzing. It would be reckless to suggest these days but then not so much.
