Sad times when a Fiesta weighs as much my Legacy Turbo did. I just can't bring myself to like the new Fiesta, I'm not even sure what it is I don't like: Maybe it's too big or too much like a shrunken Focus or maybe I'm just too old to be excited by hot hatches any more.

Awful write up. Appears to intimate that Michelin PSS tyres are hard to get hold of, yet are recommended for the car. Also states that the Perfomance Pack is a 'to go for' option, but doesn't explain what it features...
ETA: write up worse than I first thought. I had to look it up and the Quaife diff they go on about is part of the PP upgrade, yet the author says the people who might find it a bit too hard work should go for the PP. Err, surely you mean avoid it?!
ETAA: I've done a FYP in the comments!

Yes, typical poor editing by Autocar's web editors.
Spec for spec it's got very expensive, too. When I bought mine (ST-2 in blue) for £14k in 2015 I could have had a new one for £15.5k (list price in the high £17k range). A new ST-2 in blue is now over £21k list and no longer has part leather or heated seats - both of which used to be standard.

I think the rear view looks like a Meriva - the suicide door one. There's something about the shape of the back end that's unadventurous and unsporty!

A new ST3 is £21,495 (£22,240 with the blue) and comes with all this crap stuff as standard:
18" ST 5-spoke alloy wheels with machined finish Power-foldable door mirrors with puddle lights Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) Ford SYNC3 DAB Radio with 8" Touchscreen and Navigation Driver and Passenger front seat adjustable lumbar support Driver assistance features: 4.2" TFT instrument cluster screen, Traffic Sign Recognition, Auto High Beam & Driver Alert Rain sensing wipers & auto-dimming rear view mirror Ford KeyFree System with Keyless Entry & Keyless Start Electric rear windows (5-door only) Red Brake Calipers Floor mats front & rear with grey stitching Rear view camera with rear parking sensors Recaro leather sports front seats with blue detailing and trim Heated front seats & heated steering wheel
I think that's a good price.... a boggo GTI golf is nearly £30k now and doesn't have some of the above toys.

It's a supermini and not a family car, it's simply too small to be a Golf rival. However good it may be, and this goes for the higher-spec non-sports versions too, it appears to have become very expensive as far as list price goes (but there again, so had my 2016 Fiesta Titanium). It's when you take into account discounts and finance deals that it should get more interesting, and you may have to wait a while for those as just-launched cars tend not to need financial incentives to sell.

Who said it was a Golf Rival ?
It's simply a measure of comparison to gain some relative perspective given their similar levels of performance.
I think Ford have done a great job with the ST trim levels and pricing. You can get an ST 1 for £17,995, or go for the aforementioned ST 3 which is drenched in kit for £21,495 (wanky blue paint optional).
Who else gives you that much power and chassis sophistication for £17,995 - or that plus all the toys for £21,495 ?
The new Fiesta is very impressive - and that's coming from someone doesn't do small cars.

The essential Michelin PSS tyres in 205/40/18 are around £165 each. Wonder how many future owners will factor that into their running costs or bleat on about the lack of grip when they downgrade?

Why SS and not PS4 ?
I thought PS4s had taken over SS, and PS4 had taken over PS3, and the expert on TyreReviews said there’s not much difference between PS4s and PS4
I’m surprised SS/PS4s are available in fiesta size

Not sure I see the issue here A mk5 golf GTi was £20k in 2005 . You’re getting mk5 GTi size and performance for the same price in 2018 Yes it’s called fiesta but cars are bigger nowadays And the main thing is it sounds bloody brilliant to drive

I think the price is pretty good for the performance and spec. A Swift Sport is £18k now and the Polo GTI is similar to an ST3 but first have leather/climate control.

My point about the pricing was that model for model it's gone up by at least 10% with no change in spec - in fact the ST-2's has got worse. Obviously nobody should be paying list, Drivethedeal are already offering at least £2500 off (£16500 for a bog standard red ST-1, £19300 for a 5 door ST-2 with the performance pack).
I've been in an ST-line and it does feel a little bigger inside. Minor controls are a little more tactile too. The massive screen looks ridiculous though, as if someone's shoehorned a 60" tv into a bedsit.

Just driven a performance pack ST2. Recaros are a little tight, but it is exciting and the front end grip is crazy. Sounds good on normal and goes to silly cracks and handles on race, so the choice is yours.
Ride is a lot better than the old one in my opinion, and this was on the 18’s.

The deals I got emailed show even bigger savings already EDIT: just realised you were quoting on the 5dr so probably the same Basically showing 3k of most models meaning you can get into a non PP ST-3 3dr for about £18.5k, A PP version £19,340 Adding flashy paint etc obviously bumps things up but that’s a pretty healthy discount and it sounds pretty special to drive.

Apparently the chassis development team tried the PS4s and sent them back because they weren't good enough! Ah, I see you already answered that question yerself!

Very odd, I had the PS4s on the old Cayman and they were a fabulous tyre. Ok they're no Cup 2's but just how much do you want your Fiesta to have. Its probably like the Giulia QF that's been given tyres that aren't suitable for all seasons but can knock 10 seconds off a Nurburgring lap time.

The stats are in
100 mph in 16.2 seconds and 60 to 100 mph in 9.6 seconds.
That’s very punchy and especially impressive for the money.

Only problem is the monthly PCP's. For a cheap car its coming out close to £300 a month.
