They must have thought there would be a decent market for them but purely from a tech point of view a lot of them came to market as inferior products to Teslas offerings and their makers thought that they would sell based on being from a legacy car manufacturer. They've very quickly found out just how far being they are to Tesla and the likes of BYD and that buyers of EVs want decent tech. Given that a lot of these models don't even have decent looks (BMW!) to back then up its not wonder they have poor residuals.

To be honest I was quite surprised to learn they were still building the XE. Me Too. It struggled against the last 3 series so must be light years behind the current one.

So, the complainant has been suspended, albeit on full pay. Nice to see rampant misogyny and bias is alive and well in the F1 paddock! If she was potentially involved in the leak then they have to suspend her whilst they investigate, that's perfectly normal and doesn't mean she's been sacked. The whole thing is turning into a right shit show.

Bit of a shame that Mark but a project like that only works so long as you have the time and energy to devote to it and it can be frustrating when a lack of either gets in the way. I can imagine there will be someone else out there who'll want to give it a go so I doubt you'll struggle to find a buyer.

You are right Ed. We should all love RB. The party team that came in and stuck two fingers up to the stuffy old establishment of the sport and winning in style whilst jumping into the marina at Monaco and drinking champagne from their racing shoes. What an utter riot the team must be. But yet something about makes them unlikeable and I do think that something is someone and perhaps they will be the fun team again when Whinger Spice gets the boot (as surely seems inevitable). But the way its happening is not good for them or the sports reputation. Its coming across like some sort of slagging match you'd expect to see on Love Island. If you're a RB fan I totally get it that you'd enjoy the shithousery they dish out to the likes of Toto. I'm a gooner and love that Jamie Carragher gets all worked up every time Mikel Arteta celebrates a win.
Tbh I fell out of love with F1 at the end of 2021. Not just because Lewis lost but because of the reason he lost being that those in charge just couldn't help themselves and had to meddle with what was the most exciting end to a season to the point they ended up ruining it. Since then the fact that only one driver is going to win nearly every race and inevitably the championship just makes it even less worth watching and if this soap opera is all that's notable about the 2024 season I don't think Sky F1s bosses will be overly happy either.

Given how long he's been at the top of the business I can imagine it's not just as simple for RB as just giving him the sack. He's probably very much intertwined within the structural ownership of the company. I can see it being a very messy divorce (and that's before you start on his marriage to Geri!)

It does look particularly pathetic of Horner if the texts are true. You'd think a man of his standing would be better at this flirting business. I mean, he pulled Ginger Spice at some point. However its big news because its RB and CH. I'm sure if this was Fred Vasseur it wouldn't get 10% of the headlines. But isn't that always the way? The longer you are at the top the more people who want to knock you off your perch.

It's particularly bad timing given that fuel has also just been added to the Me Too fire with the report on how Wayne Cousins got a job as a cop despite a string of serious allegations. Not that I'm equating CH to him in any way but just merely to point out that now is not a great time for RB to be accused of brushing allegations of sexual harassment under the carpet, however true they may turn out to be.
If it was just flirting it really shows how in today's world of using WhatsApp to communicate I'd be really really careful about being in anyway flirtatious with a female colleague (not that I would as I'm happily married). I dont think I'd dare ask a female colleague out on a date these days so it's no wonder most people meet on dating apps rather than at work.
As far as the start of the F1 season goes I wonder if also they'll want to sandbag Max's car and will be begging him not to go out and kick everyone's arses each week at least until this blows over!

He is indeed a man with a lot of experience and therefore some great tales to tell. I agree he comes across as boring on the telly but I often people of his experience will be like on live media but put them in their comfort zone and they're much more likely to open up.

Watched the new Grand Tour Sand Job yesterday and quite enjoyed it. The pranks and unreliability of one particular car were as expected but as a travel show it had some spectacular scenery.

I did think I might have to go full on with the name but took the basic model. In 1 It didn't with me so I tried a couple of other ways of writing it including the sporty model only to find I did get it right first time but it marked me wrong for not using a capital letter!

I agree with others that Horner can be quite unlikeable and is a very marmite character but there's no doubt that the sport is will be poorer without him. Especially as Gunter Steiner also left this winter. That doesn't leave much in the way of truly characterful team principles.
Ultimately none of us know whether the allegations are true or indeed the full context of them so I do hope that they can be fully and properly investigated before he is forced out by a media pile-on.

The dealer had the work completed and bought it round this evening. Looks good but I'll have to try and have a proper look in the morning. Ive looked about a little more since (just for my own sanity check) and I've not seen much else better for the price we paid and bearing in mind the dealer was 10mins down the road (useful if anything goes wrong!) I think we've made the right choice. Time will tell of course.
I think my brothers comments were more about the way the twinair is on a run. It is a lighter and keener engine from a standing start but once on the move there isn't a lot in it and I think a lot of buyers didn't feel it was worth the extra cash new. But he's driven them out in semi rural Hampshire and maybe in London traffic its a different story.

Don't need to drive back just take screenshots from Google maps.
Lying gits indeed. Hope it gets sorted. Few years back my wife had a knock in Tesco when she started reversing and the driver behind started reversing after her. She stopped and sounded her horn but before she could try and move forward they'd hit her. All very apologetic at the scene but as soon as the claim went in they stated that both cars were reversing at the time of impact and it ended up going 50/50 as it was her word against theirs.

When you look at the market there aren't that many twinair cars around. The overwhelming majority are 1.2s. My brother reckons there's not much in it performance wise and the smaller engine isn't as economical in the real world as the NEDC test figures would have you believe so most buyers just stuck to the 4cyl models.

Thanks all. I had been thinking she ought to be driving a bit of a newer car and there was always a chance the Panda would need some work eventually. Just didn't expect it to make the decision for us in such dramatic fashion!

Sadly my wife suffered something of a mishap in her Panda the other day when the brakes randomly stopped working. They'd been fine the rest of her journey and indeed seemed to work afterwards. Alas the failure occurred as she was approaching a line of stationary traffic, the last car in line bringing her to an abrupt stop. Luckily she was only doing a little less than 20mph and no one was hurt. Unluckily 5mins earlier she'd been to the petrol station so her now written off car took 50 quid of unleaded with it! So she's decided on another but newer Fiat and now the girls are older and no longer in car seats fancied the idea of a 500. We looked at a mint green 19 plate Pop model with 10k miles that was only up for £7495. It was at an appointment only dealer who specialises in more sportier models (had some nice Ferraris and a couple of new Corvettes on his lot) but I wasn't happy that it was looked after and there was a dent on the bonnet that he had no intention of sorting. I was also concerned that he'd got it from a local 500 specialist and being that new I couldn't help wondering why they didn't want it. So we passed and a day later he'd sold it to someone else. So yesterday I went and looked at this yellow one. Its 40k and a 17 plate and whilst only £500 less it's a Lounge model with optional panoramic roof. It just sneaks into the £20 road tax band. The dealer is another 500 specialist who sources low mileage good examples. It was clearly a lease car originally so had dealer service history for 3 years then was sold by a car supermarket and whoever had it next never bothered to have the book stamped or keep any receipts. A common issue with this type of car as they're not exactly owned by car saddos like us lot. There's not a mark on it though and a service comes included in the price as part of the prep for delivery. For £250 (his mechanics cost price) they also do a cambelt - due on age but not mileage but something I'd definitely have done. So I've paid a deposit and should pick it up next week. www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202401105436974

I've not bothered with the sports channels. Most Arsenal games are on the telly this season but I just go down the pub. I'd rather spend the money on supporting a local business and if that means drinking some of their beer it's a sacrifice I guess I just have to make 🍻

I think he's lost faith in Mercedes ability to get a championship winning car again whilst he's still young enough to drive it. There's no guarantee Ferrari will either but uts his last chance to make a move there. Sainz contract is ending and anyone else replacing him would want at least a 2 year deal. So he'd be waiting till at least 2027 if he didn't go for it.
The shock factor is the announcement being made before the 2024 season has even begun which certainly puts Mercedes on the back foot in terms of expectations for the year ahead.

Just do like we always used to and take it as a cue to pop the kettle on and take a piss! Oddly I always felt that the one thing that was annoying about watching an hour long programme or a film on BBC (back in days before iPlayer) was the lack of ads. If the programme started and you'd forgotten to go you either had to sit there desperate for a wee or miss some of it. At least ITV and C4 gave you a toilet break.
But I do get what you mean about being irked at paying for a streaming service so expecting not to also have ads. Though equally Sky TV was the original subscription service in this country and that's always had ads with no-one complaining about it. And we never really complain about ads in magazines we've paid money for either. We know that if they weren't there the magazine would be £20 not £5 so it's just a way of subsidising the service to keep the price reasonable for us the user.

Ffs you’re making me very nervous. It’s still my plan to be getting into one at some point this year but the bills might mean I have to go for an M3!!! That's OK, no one ever had to spend a penny maintaining an M3. Its part and parcel of owning a performance car. Now you know about these things from Alfs car you can always try to haggle on the price if they've not been done.

Looks like the current model but with Taycan lights. Given how radically different each generation of 911 is to one another I suppose its no surprise that the design approach has been more evolution than revolution. I agree that the pricing is very high and you wonder how that will go down in a market that is now facing high lease costs due to even higher interest rates. I see a fair few Taycans about but it would be a bit of a stretch to suggest they've been selling like hot cakes and this could be similar.

I know a few people who have ditched home broadband entirely and just run everything of a their 5G mobile by switching to an unlimited data contract. If you live in most major towns you can get good enough download speeds for most streaming services.
It's not a route I'd be willing to go down just yet but I can see it coming.
