I thought all m3/m4 now had the extended leather cabin (centre console, dash topper and doors) - I assume it's actually an expensive option ?.
At that money - I wouldn't want the common or garden placcky interior.

It's a piece of piss if you don't mind having you trousers pulled down by a finance house.
Even if you are in negative equity to the tune of £3k plus, there are many deals out there where the manufacturer deposit contribution will clear your outstanding balance. However, the advertised monthly on your new car goes up as your deposit has gone down (cleared the balance on your trade in) and you are in an even worse position if you don't like the new car and want to shift it.
Selling the car privately will minimise your loss (assuming neg eq), but it will likely be a colossal twat on if you are getting the buyer to clear Audi finance and then pay you any balance.

To break into this market - if they are really serious about it, then they should be subventing their deals to make them competitive to get their cars in the market.
This would mean taking a loss on every unit, but it's the only way I can see to get the ball rolling. Then, as they start to pick up volume over the coming years, they have a viable business model.
If they don't do this, then surely they will be stuck in the vicious circle alluded to above. People will not pay another £100 + a month for a 4 cylinder saloon that is a teeny bit better looking and a teeny bit better to drive than the established marques.
The Germans have this sector sewn up tighter than a really tightly sewn up thing

Apart from the exterior looks, what specifically about the new model is disappointing ?.
The interior looks fantastic and it's allegedly a peach to drive.

It is surprising and somewhat of a concern that you haven't been able to sell yours (approaching 3 months now ?) so far. I guess that's a huge tick in the lease vs buy box then.

Racing - did you do an end of term summary of your M135i ? (buggered if I can find it on the old forum if you did). If you didn't - would you mind sharing your thoughts on : - Manual gearbox - would you order one with the MT again ? - do BMW still fit clutch delay valves to their manual cars ?
- VDC - Did you spec it ? - everything I have read suggests it's a no brainer and essential to get the appropriate ride/handling balance
