I believe I-Pace should be entitled to a Government grant - which will take £4.5k off the price.
As a 90 Kw/h model - it falls between the 75 and 100 Tesla models - pricing therefore appears to compare well in the I-Pace's favour when compared with the S or the X (although they are bigger vehicles). Tesla call their vinyl trim " Vegan Leather" and all of the autonomous gubbins is another £7,500.
I-Pace range figures are quoted on the new (less favourable to friggage) WLTP standard that will knock the stuffing out of all ICE cars when it becomes the norm (unless Governments adjust their CO2 bandings to suit).
I don't believe that Tesla have updated their ranges yet - but they will reduce (75kw Model S is rated at 275 miles on NEDC).
If I do a like for like comparison between base models (Model S 75D) on finance (36 months, 10k per annum, £7k deposit) , the Tesla has a GMFV of 54% off list, the Jaguar 52%.
I'd say that's impressive given Tesla is the clear market lead and has been running restricted supply in the UK for the bulk of it's life.

Are we looking at the same pictures ? - I think that looks fantastic, particularly that red car from the rear 3/4s.
As for the interior - wow, the tech and craftsmanship is off the charts awesome for the class.

I think Jordan Peterson summed up the " pay gap " debate perfectly (you tube the C4 interview with Cathy Newman)
To add - larger and more diverse businesses have extremely wide bands at management grades (up to 100% in my experience).
Technical specialist, engineering manager, purchasing manager, plant manager, finance manager, etc, etc, etc - all technically the same grade with the same benefits, but with huge differentials in salary because the disciplines and skills gaps are so very different.
On the other side - exceptional people get paid exceptional salaries - my missus is paid 25% more than the nearest woman and 33% more than the nearest man at the same level. Purely because she is awesome at her job and because the company cannot afford to lose her.

Disappointing - the V8 diesel they put in the Panamera is awesome and it would have been awesome in the Cayenne.
The 440 bhp V6 turbo isn't as fast, effortless or economical as the V8 diesel.
I assume in terms of global production footprint, the diesels have a small impact, but in the UK I can see gaps in the range that will cost them sales in the short term.
Hybrids are overweight nonsense and I assumed WLTP reduced their " test " benefits.

Agree with the comments about the looks, the droopy front end and saggy arsed rear bumper are very disappointing.
I’ve also noted that all of the wheel designs are horrible and the car looks under wheeled even on 20s.
Can’t get excited about the 530i either. A 2.0 turbo four banger is the wrong engine for this type of car, you need a 540i in order to get the requisite number of cylinders and low end torque for wafting.

Taxation needs to be much simpler - then you can de-scale the HMRC monolith (will save massive amounts of money) and collect more taxation as people will be less able and inclined to engage in avoidance activities.
Obviously, we need some supporting spreadsheetery - but in principle, something along the lines of :
1st £20k - tax free - after which every subsequent £ is taxed at 30% flat.
No tax credits (why take money off people and then pay other people to give it back ?? - just don't take it in the first place).
Limits on what self employed people can claim as offset (e.g - a P/T claiming the electricity to their washing machine to wash their sports kit).
Abolish RFL (replace with 2p a litre on fuel).

No idea to be honest.
However thinking about the word portfolio: A portfolio is a collection of pieces that are representative of an individual's best work
Or in this instance, a specification designed to represent a model in it's best light. A definitive presentation of the XF (if you will) in the same way that a portfolio of artwork is designed to be the definitive presentation of an Artist's output.

Portfolio spec mainly focused on materials rather than toys (although there were a few more goodies chucked in)
So Portfolio spec cars have soft grain leather with twin needle contrast ivory stitching on the dash top and the tops of the doors, they also have an alcantara headliner.
Lower spec S models had soft grain on the seats, but vinyl on the dash and door tops and normal cloth headliner.

Those wheels are the 20 inch Hydra alloy - standard fit on the XF-S Portfolio, so I assume that is what the above is.
The outgoing X250 diesel S is a lovely car. As you are probably aware, I had 4 XF S portfolio saloons back to back and they were a delight and (imho) class leading in some key areas right the way through their life cycle (Jaguar's E39 moment). They were also very good value for money - hand on heart, if I was buying with my own cash in late 2014/early 2015, that is what I would buy.
The X260 diesel S is even better to drive, but there have been a few mis-steps elsewhere that have coincided with some serious " getting one's interior shit together " actions by the holy trinity combined with a fire sale attitude to some lease pricing.
I haven't driven the new 3.0d S Sport brake yet, it's not as pretty as the car that preceded it, but it will be a delight to drive, of that I have no doubt.

I have no idea why, the last two years I ignored the doctor’s letter, but this year after 2 letters and a text, I had it done.
I assumed they had done all the old people and they had some going spare.

Windermere to Warwick in 2hrs 40 minutes (190 miles @ 40 mpg)
Chiswick to Warwick this evening (15 miles crawl on the M4 and M25, followed by 75 miles dropping dawdlers on the M40) = 41.4 mpg
Beefcake 6 pot diesels are fookin brilliant, instant gobs of creamy grunt with great economy. There is no way I’d take the supercharged v6 petrol over the 700nm diesel.

I wouldn't bother with the last of the line XFRs when the XJRs now fall into a similar price range. The XJR is a better car (better chassis than the XFR, more power, less weight, beautiful interior) and barely any bigger in the grand scheme of things. used.jaguar.co.uk/search#/details/2825032Just before Christmas, a couple of 16 plate cars went through the JLR network at low 40s

Christmas on 24th in the UK; fly off to Vienna on 25th; back on NYE. Are you staying in Vienna or passing through ? I was in Vienna a few weeks ago for the Xmarse markets and general site seeing. All in all, bit of a strange place, but the food was lovely. I had a horseradish soup with black pudding that was off the chart awesome. I am a sucker for pukka Apfel Strudle as well.

It was fantastic wasn't it.
I can't believe it was nearly 16 years since series 3, it was brilliant then and it's brilliant now.
So much care and attention goes into each episode and the guys that write it must throw away lines and sketches that other comedians would gladly give a lung for.
Telly hasn't made me laugh in a long time, but 3 measly episodes of a programme that ended 16 years ago had me wringing my undies out.
Fingers crossed Charlie Brooker does a 2017 screen wipe too

Silver from the factory - these are the nicest XF wheels (style and colour) IMO. The 20 inch matrix wheel is a bit busy, but still pleasant if you go for silver.
This is my second X260 3.0 diesel - the first one I did 4,500 miles in and the engine was loosening up nicely. Very brawny, very smooth and extremely economical given the grunt. This one should be the same.
I don't think the Sportbrake looks as good as the saloon, there is a specific viewing angle on the rear 3/4 view that looks very ungainly (and reminds me of the latest Mazda 6 estate).
Given how delightful the saloon is to drive (and it really is fantastic), I can't see the extra 115kgs of the SB doing anything than making it ever so slightly less good to drive.
Oh - and pictures don't do the colour justice at all, it's the best colour I've seen on a Jag saloon and it works even better on a Jag than it does on a Land Rover.

Disco 5 gone and replaced by an XF diesel S saloon in Silicon Silver. I haven't got any pictures of the car with it's fat ugly sister, so it will have to be these quick snaps. It's awesome to be back in a proper car, it's a lovely thing. This one has fully icy pee with the LCD dials and other trinketry (20 inch wheels, cold climate pack, memory pack, privacy glass and other things). Just need all the snow, ice and salt to bugger off

An update
Had a cortisone injection in the tendon just before it inserts into the elbow bone.
It's fine now and it's worked very well - but hol-eee fuck, the initial insertion of needle into tendon was spectacularly painful.
Physio to follow.

America gets the Sportbrake in 380ps V6 petrol AWD flavour only.
I wouldn't want the V6 petrol in UK/Europe, it's not powerful or characterful enough to ignore the V6 diesel.
In exactly the same way, there is no way I would take a 540i over a 535d touring

Am I right in assuming the X6 is the only BMW series currently without a 4 cylinder option ?

I am falling to bits and I can't tell if it's all part of the normal ageing process or if I am just the human equivalent of a series 2 XJ6 build on Friday afternoon.
My list of quality issues is as follows:
Shoulder impingement - I had an op on the left hand side 5 years ago and can't do proper bench press anymore, the right hand side grumbles when the weight goes up to my old medium training weight. Shoulder press is worse.
Medial epicondylitis (golfer's elbow) on my right arm that I've had on and off for 5 years. Despite physio, daily stretching, compression bands and adjusting my training to avoid the key triggers, it still hurts like fuck and doesn't want to get any better.
The left arm is ok - but I can feel it going the way the right arm is. The problem with golfy elbow is that turning a door handle and other such activities are precisely the movements that set it off.
Hand pain - specifically the left hand, the underside of the knuckles on the palm (where the tendons connect) really do knack. This may be boxing related, but I've been hammering the crap out of heavy bags for nearly 20 years - so I don't know what is triggering this now specifically.
Random hip and calf pain from walking..I walk a lot (5 miles a day + walking around at work) and I'm usually sore somewhere. I used to row (in a sweep oar coxed quad - if you are interested), but it exacerbated the shoulder pain, so I don't do row any more. My main exercise is walking.
I don't train to destruction, but continual injuries that don't want to heal is most dispiriting. If this is what getting old is like then it's toss and I don't like it.
I am 39 and I don't drink or smoke.
But I do like cake.

Being serious.......
If child minding is her business, then driving other people's pride and joy in some crappy old Zafira isn't going to go down very well - so I'd go beyond " banger " spec.
A smart S-Max or XC90 is probably the way to go.
Budget dependent - a Disco 3 might be in scope, although I'll let everyone else open the " reliability " discussion. Also in the wild card section is the R-Class Merc (6 seater) - but reliability comments are equally applicable
E-class estates can have jump seats in the boot, but practically they may be less than optimal.
I'd vote S-Max every time.

Aside from the column stalks, what other plastics do you think are poor ?. The XC90 is far superior to Truckzilla.

I was in Switzerland last week (best mate lives in Morges and it's a beautiful place) and we were ferried between all the mountain walking and hot cheese eating in their new XC90. In general, I was impressed with the interior design and materials (although the steering column stalks are very cheap) on what is effectively the entry level spec (base leather, no wrapped dash or door cards). It is an expensive car though and it's about the same price as an entry level Q7, which is supposed to be the goolies. A relative has recently collected a new Macan and a new Panamera so I've had chance to have a good poke around the competition, The Macan was ok - I wasn't wowed given the level of expectation and the price. The Panamera was lovely - However, this Panamera in question was a diesel 4 S with £31k's worth of options, which puts the list price very close to £130k. At that price, some of the lower environment plastics are of questionable quality (lower door casings, the door sill and b pillar plastics and some of the buttons) and even having hit almost every branch on the options tree, it still had a sack cloth headliner and leather of a middling quality. In terms of material richness, I thought it inferior to an R-Sport or Portfolio XJ. The best car I've experienced this year is the S-Class Merc - even the base car is lovely to look at with robust and expensive looking plastics everywhere. The leather could be better - but given the pricing of the base car, it's very good.
