Same as everyone else. Manufacturer was easy. The model not.

I had forgotten just how good that looks. Contender for the 'all the car you'll ever need' prize.

Like others, I knew the manufacturer in one, but never heard of that model name before.

I am not really into watches in a big way, but do appreciate clever engineering, so I was pleased to receive this vintage Omega Geneve f300 'tuning fork' watch as a gift, recently. If you put it to your ear you can hear the tuning fork quietly humming.

Like others, I was an unpleasant infection away from success yesterday, having identified the right car from the first go.

Drove up north today. Uneventful drive with not much traffic. On the return journey, I left my jacket on- it’s one I bought at Regatta and is fluorescent yellow and black- it was cold and wet out so perfect jacket for the day. Anyway, on the way home, I was making decent progress and driving a bit above the limit in the outside lane, overtaking traffic, when a car pulled out in front of me. The driver was behaving weirdly and ducked down to do something then looked up quickly, indicated and pulled over to the side. Strange behaviour, but my wife pointed out that I probably looked like a policeman. Unmarked Mondeo, dayglow jacket, over 6’ tall with a short haircut. Maybe I should dress like this on long journeys more often. Back in the 70s my dad drove a white Rover. He found that if he drove with the headlights on, everyone got out of the way and let him through.

About 8 or 10 years ago. Picked someone up in Chipping Campden, in my previous Benz estate. He commented on how smoothly it rode over the level crossing on the Ebrington Road. Previous to that would probably have been in the 1980s.

We can console ourselves with the fact that the best cars have already been made and are available on used forecourts all over the UK.
No hurry to replace any of the Chez Roadrunner fleet. If an addition were to be made, it would be another vintage/classic.
Edit to add: the Ford window switch nonsense is an act of breathtaking stupidity and I expect it to be quietly reverted to normality at the first face-lift.

Agreed. Excellent choice. The CrossClimates on the Benz are outstanding and have clocked up around 30,000 miles with some good use left.

The thing is, in future, when he is having his fingers stitched back on, he can reflect on the many times previously when he got away with it.
Farming in particular has a diabolical H&S record, with many, many people who have got away with it previously, not quite getting away this time. I often think, "there but for the will of God" when I look back to some of the scrapes and near-misses I had.

Tastes differ. I wouldn’t consider a Mercedes with that awful hood ornament. It’s a relic of a by gone age, like spats on your shoes. I'm quite partial to relics. It's not the external look I like - it's the look down the bonnet. I've only ever owned one Merc - the 500E - but the sight-line down several acres of bonnet to the gun-sight star was childishly appealing. I agree, hence the addition of a gun-sight to mine within a few days of purchase. It just doesn't seem right to pilot a Benz without the star up front.

Not watched it all yet, but the E Class looks to be recognisably wafty on the motorway. The ridiculous amount of tech would make running one of these as a 25 year old snotter out of the qquestion.I suppose there is always pressure on the manufacturers to come up with ever more gimmickery to show off. I think I shall stick with my current Benz for the foreseeable future.
