... and just you wait until new petrol and diesel car sales are banned and there is a drop in demand for liquid fuel.
Who is going to want to train as a tanker driver, knowing that demand for what you deliver will be decreasing steadily? How will smaller garages survive on reduced sales unless they all open mini-markets to remain solvent? There is a distinct possibility that supermarkets will be the only organisations large enough to sustain the traditional forecourt.... I wonder who in government has thought this through and produced any plans to "cope" as the fuel situation changes over time, same way as where is the planning for an increase in the number of EV charging stations and how do people with no off-street parking cope?

Indeed. Just in time supply chains are a good idea (less working capital tied up in stock) until there is an unplanned change in demand. Then they are hopeless. As has been proved several times. ... or a breakdown, road closure/derailment/fire etc etc - less working capital tied up = financial benefit, not much other benefit under normal circumstances

I've said it before and I'll say it again... in the overall cost of developing a new car, the addition for an extra mould for a different front bumper is negligible. I really cannot understand why, if China and possibly the USA "require" an ugly nose, a different one cannot be fitted to European market vehicles

TBH with the high number of covid cases and deaths in Turkey, I'm a little surprised that the race still seems to be going ahead. Let's hope that all participants, teams, media, spectators etc remain virus-free

Bonus Q: How many Red Bull and Alpha Tauri cars will start the race from within the top 10 grid positions? (ie not just qualify within the top 10 but actually take to the grid within the top 10, so guess somewhere between zero and 4)

Whatever happened to riot police and baton charges, or aren't they allowed to do that any more? I think a water cannon would be good for them, too ---- would help a bit towards cleaning the glue and paint off the carriageway ;-)

And for my next question; my Thermos flask can keep hot liquids hot, and cold liquids cold. But how does it know? Reminds me of the David Beckham joke, "so what have you got inside your flask?" "Choc ice and coffee"

Just been to the nearest Sainsburys to get some food (got most of what I wanted despite increasing gaps on the shelves) and the queue for the pumps was back to the dual carriageway again with 2 or 3 members of staff marshalling cars so as not to block the entrance to the car park or the main road, so maybe 50 cars.... for at least the 11th day running (when they have had fuel). It's certainly not getting easier to buy fuel around my part of the world

Think is, with global warming, why would you want to insulate your house more than it currently is, anyway? Gets so hot in summer that even with windows open, you can't get it cool enough to be comfortable.

The problem is they're zealots and like any fanatic they see themselves as righteous, the end justifies the means. False idols attract all kind of nutters It's become something of a theme in this country of late. It's anarchy, we cannot have a small group of people holding tens of thousands to ransom (inconveniencing daily lives) for the sake of what they perceive to be a good cause. Where are the water cannons when you need them?

Brexit is not a blame for anything, it's the government's response (or lack of it) that is to blame for a number of issues that we have subsequently experienced.
Cameron should bear the blame for much of this - I believe that he had to resign as he had not got a clue what to do when the vote went opposite to what he expected. I don't think he had any idea of the effect a "leave" vote would have on the country

I just wish we had one party worth voting for. I wouldn't give the time of day to Labour or Conservative at the moment and I don't have much faith in any of the other current parties...... a bit like the last USA election, there wasn't really a "good" candidate anywhere to be seen

Younger daughter continued with plan to take my wife to hospital today. No fuel in Bushey-Watford, she arrived at our home just over an hour ago with negative range on her Audi - went beyond the zero miles to go with a "refuel now" warning. Fortunately a 10 minute queue at the garage round the corner from us bought her a tankful of the ghastly E10 - the E5 was around £1-50 per litre ! Just over 43 litres into a 45 litre tank, so there really was almost nothing left.
I went out earlier this morning and although most garages in the area (not that many) are open, some are out of diesel and all open garages have queues that in some cases are causing traffic chaos with the jams they bring to the main roads. There are a few brazen idiots driving not-so-slowly on the wrong side of the road to avoid the queues, straight into oncoming traffic forcing it to take evasive action

Worse today than at the weekend round my way, most garages I have passed have some fuel (Sainsburys had a sign saying no diesel) but the queues are causing big jams on the surrounding roads

I went out this afternoon. Just round the corner from home, the local petrol station was still closed, out of fuel since Saturday evening.
When I came back about 2 hours later, there was a tanker delivering, cones blocking entrance and exit and a queue of 6 cars in the main road waiting for it to re-open. It was the only station I passed on the journey, but at my destination people were talking about the impossibility of buying fuel locally, so it is still a huge issue around here despite what the idiots in government may be saying

Maybe the fuel shortage could be lessened by making the minimum purchase for cars and vans £40 or £50 instead of a maximum of £30, as round my way. It would hopefully stop all those "just topping up" and mean that people genuinely needing fuel should be able to buy some?

Our local garage is still out of all fuel (just got back from a post-lunch walk).
I read in the news that Government thinks that sending a letter in the post to all HGV licence holders will solve the crisis my making many return to the industry. You couldn't make it up
