I was looking for the old thread to revive but then realised it is probably in the old place.
I was making a few enquiries for perhaps next year or the year after and asked, tongue in cheek, about the possibility of the housing development which has been threatened for a while. I was rather surprised to hear that they will know some time in 2019 whether the whole place will become a building site. Without doubt I am going to go again before that time but for anyone else who has been thinking they might do it - time is potentially running out, so get saving and get it booked!

Seriously - is there a strong possibility of Bedford Autodrome being turned into a housing development?

Seriously - is there a strong possibility of Bedford Autodrome being turned into a housing development? Looks like a prime target to me, given its geographical location and current usage. It's probably been sold and land-banked already.

I assume it would qualify as a brownfield site? I’m sure it’ll get covered with the stock designed homes of the national house builders in no time.

Considering the pressure on housing it will probably go through for, you know, affordable housing. Affordable for whom is the question as I doubt it will be for working class folk, like junior NHS and dumpster drivers et al. Something I heard from my ex brother in law, cannot think of a sarcastic one for that so will let it go, suggested that building firms like his were deliberately reducing standards for the the hidden parts of the building to shorten the life of it and increase profit. They know who they are.....

Seriously - is there a strong possibility of Bedford Autodrome being turned into a housing development? There were a couple of comments when I was down there earlier this year but we were told it was years away and no decisions had been made. The comments I received last week would suggest that things have moved on a bit since August and the person I was speaking to has been there for a long time and should know.
I know that they are a good bit quieter than they were maybe 10 to 15 years ago when Corporate days out were prevalent and no-one considered it to be bribery! The bribery act has stopped most of the large organisations from doing anything on the scale of a day at PalmerSport, for customers. Some still do it for staff team building etc which is OK but there are far less of them.

Ha. The Bribery Act. One assumes everything is now cheaper as there's less Bribery about, driving up costs for the consumer - do we think that's the case?
No me neither.......

I'm sure I read in Autocar a while ago that he's opening up a new Palmer Sport in Northern France. Can't imagine the cost of that is coming from thin air.

That would be a real shame, but it must be worth a fortune if it is an an area designated for more housing, and counts as a brownfield site.
Does that mean all old airfields could count as brownfield??
Anyway there are loads and loads of airfields out there, hopefully they will set up on another one. For me, the various tracks at Bedford are enjoyable, but nothing like a "real" racetrack with gradient changes and the background scenery etc...

I suppose easy access by the Eurostar might be tempting.

I think that's probably the case. Anywhere within an hour or two of Calais will be seen as a great weekend away for the boys. You can even combine it with the ring and spa. I guess Northern France has more space and therefore a lot less noise complaints than you do in the UK. You have Portimao in Portugal if you want a bit of sunshine I guess.

PalmerSport is now on for 2019 if anyone is interested. The date is 23rd August 2019.
Cost incl vehicle damage waiver and VAT is £918. If you say it quickly enough it doesn't hurt too much.
We haven't booked yet but I already have enough to make up one group and I might move on to having two groups if I get enough interest.
If anyone is interested please PM me.

Seriously - is there a strong possibility of Bedford Autodrome being turned into a housing development? Rockingham will close at the end of the 2018 season to become a housing estate, I hope that Bedford won't go the same way. The French site is covered here: news.msv.com/9188.aspx

Quite often there are large contingents of Scandinavians and last time we were there, there was a group from Denmark, so the French circuit would probably suit them well.

£918 aint cheap but its something I've always wanted to do. Next track day for me is a cheap day at Silverstone for £200 at the end of November.

£918 aint cheap but its something I've always wanted to do. Next track day for me is a cheap day at Silverstone for £200 at the end of November. We were there last Friday with brilliant weather and it was as good as it always is. I was very fortunate and ended up top equal for the day out of 71 but everyone was enthused and desperate to go back. We even had Lee Evans there who provided a few laughs and was very willing to stand and have photos taken. As he posed for a photo with us he did say he's never been as close to so many Glaswegians without running. Even the moderate petrolheads and those for whom a car is more of a means of transport, found the day unbelievable and were saying it was the best day out they have ever had. If you haven't done it, I can't recommend it highly enough.

I'll let you know when we are doing it again.
I have been a few times now so I have an advantage knowing where the tracks go but one of the newbies in our group was fastest overall in the Clio - his instructor told him to drive it like he had stolen it - it wasn't pretty but it was effective! I was beaten into 2nd in the M2, by 1/100th of a second and was 1st equal in the Land Rover and was in the top 7 for everything else apart from the Karts where my weight was a hindrance and I could only manage 11th. Consistency is the secret.

Glad you enjoyed it! I will do this again - if it remains available.
I would consider the half day with Tina if she was interested - and again if funds allowed. I'm just starting the process of finding out how much of my money I get to keep ongoing now, at some point in 2019 I should know...
