Spotted at the eastern end of Heathrow Airport on Saturday, looking immaculate from a short distance in the rain anyway.... no runny dirty water stains etc etc... I wonder why it's there, what it is being used for and if there are any plans for its future?

It's there to remind visiting Americans we're better than them when they land.

To stick one finger to Richard Branson that he did not manage to buy the aircraft?

It's there so that the Royals can make a sharp exit to Canada when Corbyn's revolution comes... They know things we don't know...

No joke: in the '70s there was an unofficial strategic team led by senior figures in the armed forces in place ready to land armed helicopters in front of Buckingham Palace to whisk away the monarchy in the event the extreme lefties of the Labour Party took control.

Isn't it more likely that they'll need to escape the revolution that comes when the Daily Mail & Express readers that voted for Brexit suddenly find themselves considerably worse off and with a plummetting house value?
Only after that will there be the Labour Party!

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if there was something similar still in place in case of revolution etc.

It's weekends only until the end of March (I think) - we went the last Friday in October so it was nice and quiet.
One of my mates commented that inside it still smells of Marlboro fags and mile-high sex!

I thought the Concord were mostly scrapped in case Richard Branson got the chance to buy and fly them. BA's gotterdamerung.

I don't think any got scrapped Mike. I think there's still one of the prototypes on display at Yeovilton.
Remember they only built 20 in total.
EDIT Just checked and 18 are on display at various locations inc Barbados and Germany. I think one might also be in New York (on the aircraft carrier they have as a floating museum) and there's bound to be one at Pima in Arizona!

^ Yup, I've seen (and been in) the one in NYC twice, in 2006 and 2016. It's at the Intrepid Museum of Air, Space and Sea. It's no longer floating, it's on the pier. (posted this on the old forum last year): Have also seen the one at Brooklands... Full info on current locations: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concorde_aircraft_historieswhich I was pointed to today via another forum... aparently the one I saw is now the last one at Heathrow and it is in a bit of a state, certainly internally if not externally with the rain hiding a lot of decay :-( It's the one in Bristol I am hoping to see next

I didn't imagine the one at Manchester then. I inadvertantly got to see it when attending a wedding fair there back in 2010.

The Spruce Goose for me, something about a wooden aircraft that big. Conspiracy theory place the real reason for the take off during a so called taxi test was that Hughes KNEW it would never fly worth a bleep and he just had to get it to fly, even for such a short distance (1 mile?).

Have you got the one at Pima, Arizona on your list as well? They also run tours of the 'Boneyard' which is where all the military jets go to be stored/dismantled.

THe Intrepid Museum of Air, Space and Sea is a great place to visit. We went pre Concorde, but the range of planes on display is amazing.
