Expecting most input from one particular member on here...
My brother is looking to replace his old Ford Ranger pickup which has almost rotted into oblivion. He has seen a basic spec (no air suspension) Discovery TD5 which he likes the look of. It won't be his main car, but more for occasional farm / garden design duties and dotting about the villages. Might be called upon for the odd trip to Wales. Good idea, or the road to ruin?

L200 or Hilux.

Yeah, I wouldn't. Even my tidyish rust free example was rotten above the fuel tank. Didn't even realise until after I had sold it. They all leak which causes BCM issues and all of the electrics other than headlights go through the BCM.
Saying that, it was quite nice to smoke about in.
Decent Series 5 Hilux or B40 L200 as mentioned above.

If he goes for another Ranger, don't bother with the new 10 speed auto. It's absolutely shocking. We have one on our fleet with the 2.0 Biturbo motor and the gearbox hasn't got a clue what day it is, let alone what gear it should be in.

Thanks for this. I think he has now seen the light and will probably get a newer Ranger. Probably something 2011 to 2014 era.

Check it well for rust. Rangers are terrible for it - even the later ones.
An acquaintance had a body off chassis repaint and treatment courtesy of Ford warranty on his 19 plate.
