My licence reached its 10 year expiry date earlier this month.
As my passport is only a couple of years old I was able to use that photo for the renewal and the new licence arrived in less than a week.
However it says the old one should be cut in 2 and returned. Is that a statutory requirement?
I only ask because in the letter with the new one it says to keep the licence safe and secure, similar to a credit card. But it's going to obvious to any nefarious persons that the envelope going to the DVLA contains a photo ID with personal info on it.
Is it ok just to shred the old one myself?

Last time I got a new licence I cut it in 2 and returned it - i'm far too compliant!

Sell it to some dodgy looking bloke on the corner by the kebab shop.
Should be fine.
I was like John and just did as I was told.

I've put it in the post so if I get my identity cloned I'll be back to blame you both
