The new Reg plates are out since the beginning of the month and I’ve only seen one car on a 241 plate so far- a neighbor has bought a Toyota Rav 4. The list price for the basic model is €44,500 on the road which got me wondering how much the cheapest car is.
It’s a Dacia Sandero at just over €16,000.
Now I don’t think any of us here drive a Dacia, but if you had to buy a car to keep you going for, say 3 years, what would you buy?
Criteria for the choices are it has to have an engine and on the road for £15,000 (forget insurance costs). Googling has provided the list below.
Kia Picanto - £13,665. Dacia Sandero - £13,785. MG3 - £13,820. Citroen C3 - £13,995. Volkswagen up! - £14,630. Fiat Panda - £14,740.
Personally I’d be partial to the Up! or the Panda with maybe one or two options that keep it under the limit.

Possibly the C3 on the basis that the Panda and Up are about to be pensioned off. But I’ve not driven one.

I'd probably take the Dacia. I'd like to try the Picanto and C3 first though

Really great, will do an update after new tyres are fitted on Wednesday
But the notional budget you'd get a nearly new one....

Another vote for an up gti
But the Sandero is based on the latest clio so not a bad car , especially if you go for the one with the screen . It makes the interior much nicer

For £15,000 I'd buy a 987 Boxster or Cayman, service it once in that time and sell it for £15,000 three years later. I appreciate that's breaking the rules

I'd go down the older modern classic route as well - I'd struggle with the idea of spending more than £3000 on a car that just gets me from A to B.

A few years ago I would have said a pre-reg bargin from a car supermarket - like a base Mondeo or something like that.
However that doesn't work these days - so I'll suggest whatever is on special with the lease companies.
