Was out for a run tonight with the group I’ve been training with. We were doing about 10k and got spread out over it. At about 8.5k into the run, we saw the group in front of us had stopped and were fathered around under a street lamp. As we approached, we saw 2 of the guys were covered in blood and in a lot of pain. A teenager on an e-bike had gone the wrong way down the road, and hit them head on under a street light. They were wearing neon yellow and white tops so highly visible. The guy on the bike was looking on his phone, had no lights and had no brakes. One of my friends has gone to hospital as he can’t move his arm, the other has been checked out by the paramedics and been allowed to go home.
Police didn’t come as there are currently riots in Dublin City Centre and all forces have gone there.
Got the details of the guy on the e-bike who was in shock and hurt too, but didn’t stay. His mother came and took him away. His mates started trying to provoke us and nearly got flattened by a very large firefighter when they tried to take the e-bike away.
Bummer of a way to end the evening. Hoping the guys are ok.

Hope your running mates are OK. These engines bikes are an utter menace especially as they seem to be the transport of choice for Deliveroo and Just Eat deliveries where their riders think nothing of darting about at high speed in heavily pedestrianised areas.
They're also a massive fire hazard. We have a lot of customers asking us about whether they should allow staff to charge their ebikes at work and my current advice is a flat NO. There's been a number of fatal house fire here in the UK caused by ebike batteries whilst they're charging.

These mongs are everywhere.
I was nearly run over by one undertaking a car via the pavement - given that the car was doing 30, he blasted past that (within 1 foot of me) and must have been doing 40+.
I keep all my fingers crossed that he falls off and breaks everything in the not to distant future.

Around the office we have also had a spate of youths on unregistered trials bikes flying along the pavement. The Police are obviously aware because they are out and about on their own trials bikes but someone is going to get killed if they don't stop them.

I nearly got hit by one of the e-bike idiots on Duke Street in Glasgow awhile back - he went flying through a pedestrian crossing red light. If someone had even just brushed against him I reckon he would've come off and hit a parked car. Maybe not a bad thing.....

Heard back from the 2 guys. The one who was cut up badly has 6 stitches in his leg and had to have his chin glued, can’t walk as his groin is injured, but nothing broken. The second guy has got 2 badly broken elbows which will require surgery to fix, his leg was also badly impacted, but thankfully it wasn’t broken. Surgery is provisionally scheduled for tomorrow, depending on bed availability. I’m glad the injuries weren’t worse but the guy with the broken elbows is a serious athlete, 53 years old and ran the marathon a few weeks ago in 3hrs 20 mins. Interested to see what happens next as there will be a police report filed. The picture of the bike shows the severed brake cable and no light, the second picture with the blurred people shows how bright it was under the street light where it happened. The guy in the yellow in the foreground was the one who required all the stitches.

What a nightmare! I think kids cycling/ebiking/motorbiking on pavements think its a victimless crime, and just a rule to break, but this has had serious implications for these guys - the pain and hassle of the injury, missed work, potentially long times off of sport that may be their main enjoyment in life - and important for their mental health. It looks like the kind of thing Police might do nothing about, but in my mind its a clear crime. If you choose to do something illegal (like drink driving, or driving with bald tyres) then hurt someone, that's not an accident - its some form of ABH or similar, surely? It should be treated as such.
Around here the geniuses that do the road planning think its OK to make some normal-sized pavements half walking, half cycling, with no red tarmac just a line down them. They are lethal, but the result is that many people think its OK to ride on all the pavements, and of course without lights in the dark. I have nearly hit a few running myself - and to be fair I've run right out in front of them at times- when its pitch dark and they have no lights, what do they expect (I have a head torch but its not psychic).
I appreciate its not popular with many drivers, but bikes should be on a road or a proper bike path, not one pedestrians will wander over...
I hope the guys get better soon - as I know at the moment (recovering from Pneumonia) its no fun not to be able to exercise, when you rely so much on it...

Driving home in the dark Sat evening I was passed by two trial bikes, without lights, dark clothing, the front one doing a wheelie - little cunts are just baiting the police to chase them.
This morning, in the dark, I came across a guy pedalling along, dark clothing, no lights, riding hands in pockets, up the road. It took all my strength not to nudge him off.

I know an elderly couple who are being sued for many £10's of thousands by a cyclist who pulled in to the outside lane of a 30mph 4 lane road right in front of them as they were slowing to a halt coming up to traffic lights. The police attended and said that he was at it but his ambulance chasing lawyers are trying to turn the screws. It's becoming more than a problem.

Terrible. Hope they make a good recovery.
London is, needless to say, full of these idiots. A few weeks back, we were driving past the Natural History Museum along the Cromwell Road, which for those who don't know it is part of the A4 and thus has two lanes in either direction (without a central reservation). It's a busy road at pretty much all times as the major artery out to the west from central London (becomes the M4 eventually). Mid-afternoon on a Saturday and two blokes who looked about 18 were, bold as brass, cycling up the middle of it on expensive-looking e-bikes at traffic speed weaving in wide figures of eight around each other, pulling wheelies, and running every light and pedestrian crossing.
I really can't think of a better advert for investing in a dashcam.

Trouble is that it's not exactly like they'll be identifiable. They don't exactly wear number plates and there's no Police around stopping them so they'll feel perfectly safe getting away with having their fun.

I would say the dash cam is more for protection when you inevitably run one over and they come at you for compensation for their idiocy.

I would say the dash cam is more for protection when you inevitably run one over and they come at you for compensation for their idiocy. That is true but it just won't help anyone who suffers damage to their cars and sees the little scrotes bugger off down some alley or sidestreet

e-scooters, e-bikes, unlicenced trial bikes etc. and even the general standard of normal bike rider's behaviour. It's just all been allowed to get worse and worse with no action. And clearly not just UK but as rodge has shown, elsewhere too.
I hope the guys are OK and the little scrote gets charged with something. But In won't hold my breath.

Update.
Surprise surprise, the guys family didn’t report the accident to the police. The problem for them is the firefighters were going to file a report as the police couldn’t make it due to the riots that night. The second problem they have is that I got all the guys details at the scene. He told the truth because I grabbed him and got all the info from him while he was in shock.
That info has now been passed onto the police. They know his family as they are a source of trouble in the area and have questioned the injured parties and were following up with the problem family too. I’m not involved in the follow up but will update when I hear more.
One of the injured guys is going back to work this week. The other faces a long recovery. The doctors said that the only reason his legs weren’t broken is because he is so fit and has phenomenal bone density from all of his training.

I’ve a meeting with the police tomorrow to give a statement. Looks like they are going to prosecute the guy who caused the accident. Interested to see what happens next.
