Person in my estate has put up in the group chat that she needs a loan of an electric car jump starter kit. She has an Ioniq 5 and apparently the battery won’t be able to charge until the 12v circuit can come on to allow the other systems to power up. Charging it directly won’t do anything when the 12v is flat. Along with all the stories of rapidly increasing insurance premiums and repair costs, I’m happy to keep burning carbons for a while longer.

Fault or user error?

User error I think. From googling, it’s a fairly common thing, if you leave lights on or something activated in the car.

How does a modern vehicle allow this? Even the (2011) Gorilla went into a battery-save mode when I had a power leaking door handle.

I guess it might be easier to leave something switched on, although I’m surprised it didn’t power down when the car was locked. Maybe it comes as standard with the 2015 (?) era BMW Comfort Access that ensured the car was powered up if the keys were nearby thus if you were at home the car was always ready to go and flattened the battery in a couple of days!
