I love these too.
I drove the S63 version at Mercedes World and it was a wonderful piece of kit. The suspension (air I think) kept the car flat through the corners whilst at the same time the bolsters on the seats inflated or moved to keep you in place. I drove the C, E and S63 that day. The S63 just stood out as a phenomenally accomplished motor car that would do everything to a very high standard. Not as much fun as the C63, not quite as fast as the E63 but as a place to spend time going fast in comfort it totally blew the other two away.

That S-Class must be a wonderful place to spend time, although I would opt for something other than a coal-hole black interior. It is remarkable just how flat an Airmatic suspended Benz does corner (even a 2-tonne family estate), although it is highly likely that the S63 had the top of the range version which is called something like ABC. By all accounts the ABC suspension is outstandingly good, but expensive borkage is almost guaranteed. My pneumatic side bolsters don't do the auto adjust trick, so I just set them to figure-hugging all the time.

Private plate on it takes some effort not to gag over.
I think like all cars: if it was £100k+ to buy new, running costs will be those of a £100k+ car forever.

^ Which is why I am surprised at the motoring rags pushing the £10k/20k moneypit over buying a modern hatchback or equivalent. The "Look at what you get for the money" argument does not cover the ability to keep the thing going and that's without the possibility of a truly massive failure bill.

Not sure I'd say peak as the C126 exists. These are nice cars and a hell of a lot of metal for your money but the interiors tend to be black which is a little dull or Gin Palace White which is a little too far the other way.
How much is an LC500 compared? Admittedly not exactly comparing apples and apples but the Lexus is a peach.

Big coupes just have more appeal than their saloon equivalents.
