On Sunday it was the Vintage Sports car Club Worcestershire Tour. Starting from the GWR steam railway at Toddington (near Prescott) it consisted of approximately 70 miles of roads on the Worcestershire / Gloucestershire borders. My brother came along as navigator. We gathered for signing on and the obligatory bacon roll: Cars were set off at one minute intervals, to avoid too much bunching together, although inevitably this did eventually happen. To begin with, the route took us up Stanway Hill, then through Snowshill to Broadway where we did a run to the top of the Upper High Street (now a no through road) and then back down to join the Childswickham road: The weather was warm so those in open cars had the advantage to begin with, but we did encounter a couple of showers later in the day. One Bentley stopped to erect their roof, but others pressed on: There were several suggested watering holes en-route but some of us opted for the clear choice, in the shape of the Farmers Arms at Birts Street, in the shade of the Malvern Hills. This produced the most idyllic English country pub car park scenes imaginable: Although this was a social tour, rather then a timed competition, there were a few opportunities to press on. The Alvis behaved superbly and I was even slightly gaining on a 3-litre Bentley up one hill. All-in-all a thoroughly enjoyable day and we got home before the biblical thunderstorm and monsoon started.
