According to the BBC website we should currently have sun and a light breeze with 0% chance of rain.
It is currently dull, overcast and really pouring.
How exactly do they get it that wrong?

good man,I thought I was going mad. I use the app on the iphone for the local forecast and the last two days have told me the morning is nice and dry but both days we have had near tropical rain both mornings .

The main reason I am upset is that I arranged at the weekend to have an on course double golf lesson based entirely on the forecast for later today. It is now too late to cancel!
Even on Breakfast TV this morning it looked like a nice sunny afternoon. There isn't any blue sky for as far as I can see, in any direction.

Said showers here today but I’ve just played 18 holes in glorious sunshine.
They say they have these supercomputers to predict the weather accurately but I’m convinced they pocket the money and just have an old boy out in the back of the BBC garden with a pine cone.

A mate of mine terms them "weather guessers". Appropriate, I think.

They forecast sunshine and thundery showers here for today and that is what we have had. I assume these hit and miss showers are difficult to place. A few days ago I sat in a 15-minute biblical deluge, then drove away on flooded roads, only to be driving in sunshine and on bone dry roads within four miles.

Forecast was for rain all day. We've had bright sunshine with a small light shower. I've finished on the farm this morning so got the truck mucked out for my Norfolk trip.
It's warm too, finally.

With perfect timing for this thread, Herself drove through Armageddon on her way home earlier this afternoon, with hail stones like gob stoppers, continual thunder and lightning and the road three inches deep in icy slush. That was four miles away. Meanwhile, here it got a bit dark and cloudy, with some audible thunder rumbling in the background and about three drops of rain.

I've just had my shower and wondered why it felt hotter than usual - I've caught the sun good and properly while cleaning the truck this afternoon.

We've had plenty of rain down south today and no sun. I've noticed that recently almost all the forecasts seem to be rubbish, and there are huge differences between them too. I now generally look at the rain radar maps, and judge the likely weather by looking at the areas of rain and the speed and direction at which they are moving.
Just been in Northern France for a few days and I don't think one forecast I looked at was right with regard to the rain (I missed it all) or the temperature (got up to about 22 degrees on one day, a bit too hot for the one jacket that I took so ended up carrying it for some of the time)

I got to the course with the rain still falling, albeit less heavily, I put my full waterproofs on and by the time I walked to the Pro Shop and had a 5 minute chat, the rain was off and the sun had come out. I then got 18 holes largely in bright sunshine, having tucked the waterproofs back in my bag. It is very strange weather at the moment!

Mrs Tim and I were gardening until 8pm (yes, I know a true rock & roll lifestyle) and only came in because we hadn't eaten!

I was thinking you might be sweltering in waterproofs as I was driving home! In the sunshine!

I once worked with a data geek who had worked on a Met Office IT project. During his time there he came to know that much of weather forecasting as recently as 25 years ago was “what was the weather like yesterday, what’s it like today and what’s it been like at this time of year historically?” Then make a forecast.

Today forecast sunny all day. Then why is thew sky covered in cloud and I had to put a coat on to check the sheep at 6pm?
As said above, I'm sure the supercomputers are just empty boxes.
