When I first got my Evoque it went into restricted performance mode twice (throttle voltage difference, or something like that) but then worked flawlessly for 5 or 6 months until yesterday when it did it twice. When it first happened the advice from the specialist seemed to be to forget it as these things are like computers and after a power off and on it might not do it again and they were right... for about 5 or 6 months. Back in my electronic days clever me knew a lot of faults inside out but sometimes faults can be caused by more than one thing and if time or customer pressure was an issue I'd sometimes change multiple things to get in and out quickly and kill the fault. So, I've got it booked into a different dealer and if they um & ah and tell me to turn it off and on more often I might just say... "Change out everything in the possible fault chain as I just can't be arsed with this intermittent fault." I don't know about JLR prices but it's an independent garage so that could reduce the costs a bit and the car was £1k under book price when I bought is so I'll be more than happy if the repair is not a lot higher than £2k. So my guess is £3k. As above... Just for fun... Any wild guesses of how much an as yet undiagnosed repair on an Evoque could cost? Anyone with more definite knowledge please just pretend you don't have it and guess. Closest guess gets Mucho Kudoso.

Well JLR products haven't been particularly known for being money pits so I'm sure a 2k fix won't be the start of a long line of trouble.

£100 to get the pedal potentiometer cleaned. Very wishful thinking.

I think I'd be disappointed with that. I expect to be pressuring the garage to change more stuff.
I'll be happy if it doesn't top £2k.

Good luck, and I fear it will cost you a lot, inconsistent electric gremlins have featured on both my Evoque s and never truly fixed then..mpart of the character!!

I'd never have thought of that, it's not something I've ever even thought about... You think that's a better idea than an independent LR dealer? I suppose some of this is tongue in cheek but it is at the back of mind as the place I used to use for the Getz and MX5 seemed to not want me to spend my money. The MX5 was in and out for various things and I kept telling them to just get it sorted but every time I went back to pick the car up it was the same story, just fettle and lubricate and fiddle and adjust etc. and of course the issues usually came back. For example the MX5 was in for vibration caused (I'd guess and correctly so) by sticking brakes multiple times and they never sorted it but when I took it to a new garage and told them to change whatever rather than just fettling they changed the discs and calipers and voila! Perfect. And the fix lasted. The other lot were the same no matter what the problem, they'd make do and fettle rather than use new parts and half the time they didn't even charge me which was all very nice but getting the car fixed was more important to me than penny pinching.

I've loved my open two seaters but for whatever reason I do like this Evoque but this fault causes real issues. Being limited to 50mph (or whatever) is bad enough but it's slow to pull away which creates a real problem at round abouts and junctions.

I had an immobiliser fault on the Elgrand after a new battery went south. All was OK on fitting the new battering expect the immobiliser would kick in every 5 starts - the garage could clear the fault with their OBD but couldn't permanently clear it. I rang round a few auto electric specialists and was about to book it in to one 60 miles away, when a bloke on a Facebook group told me a procedure to try with the key - went from expecting £500 plus to a totally free fix!

Ah! - I knew someone here had an Elgrand just couldnt remember who (and hadn't bothered to search)! the reason it was top of mind is that the 'garage' (it's mainly a car wash but there was second hand car dealership based on the same site) near my partners current house has just rebranded to be a Japanese MPV specialist and there are a lot of Elgrands (20+) all lined up out there right now with some Vellfires and others mixed in!!

I would honestly never have thought of trying to find an auto electrician for this fault. The Evoque goes in next week and if they don't find anything an auto electrician could be something to try next. The car was £1k under book price so I suppose I have that to spend with no real impact on my bank balance

I took Yogi (that's the Evoque's name ) in on Thursday for the intermittent limp home mode issue and I'm quite hopeful they've fixed it. I told them that I think it might be water related as the first time it did it was in pouring rain and it did it again the next morning. When it did it recently it was the day after it rained all day so my theory was that something is getting wet and needing time to dry out. The mechanic at the new place said a common fault is corrosion in a connector in the throttle system as water gets in and when I went to pick the car up on Friday he said mine "didn't look good." He claims to have cleaned it and taped it up to stop water getting in... so I'll keep my fingers crossed. This was at Tim Brown and Son at Stokesley. Oh, and they haven't told me how much I owe them yet but I assume it can't be too much. I did ask them if they could fit parking cameras and a dashcam and they said their auto electrician couldn't do it. I asked "Why" and the answer explained everything. "He's retired." I think the receptionist has a sense of humour as when I asked how much for the recent repair she said "An arm and two legs." Such fun. I'll go somewhere else for the camera stuff. I've seen DIY kits but I'd rather pay someone to do it

Seems to be a lot doing this now - some with a good reputation and some not so good. Either way they seem to add a lot to the price for just giving them a good valet, removing the rear cats (cost me just £96) and undersealing (not a good idea on a 10-15 yer old used car IMO - I did mine with Lanoguard). Mine was £5800 and I spent about £300 on it but a dealer price for a similar vehicle is £8000+ A Vellfire has quite an interior though - but they're more than I wanted to spend.
