The balanced thread as I am now tired of political shenanigans on both sides.
I read today that the Tory party is desperate for some focus on the political and social matters at hand but are exasperated by their leader’s constant side tracking into matters that are mired in the bogs of personal ethics. What Johnson fails to understand is the basic premise we constantly tell our older daughter: that lies will catch up with you as you need to keep track of what you lied about when and who is available to tell the truth in the face of them, ergo it is far simpler to tell the truth. When a former very senior civil servant comes out to tell on you against all known protocol you are a very silly little boy, which is as far as Johnson seems to have got in terms of mental ethical development.
These concerns are from Cabinet down to the Mail readers sipping their tea in the local Con Club lounge but by and large no one can see a viable, or palatable, alternative.

Yep, we really are in the same position as most other countries. A total lack of talent. Or is it the medias fault who just keeps bring up stories each week that makes the job of being a politician impossible.
Admittedly it shouldn't be impossible to find a group of people to run the country that aren't serial liars, thieves, adulterers, fornicators and deviants but its all the job seems to attract.

I don't think you can blame the media for constantly reporting this because, by and large, we should be entitled to expect that the most important jobs in the country are carried out by people who aren't serial liars, thieves, adulterers, fornicators and deviants (and that's just BJ personally, you can include bully for Patel, moron for Raab, creep for Gove and god knows what else for the others). The fact the current shower are apparently unable due to having to try to keep track of their misdeeds is entirely down to themselves. I don't agree that there's no talent available, I merely assume that the current leadership have created such a shit show that nobody else wants to step forward until the downward line of negative stories shows some sign of abating. On that basis BJ could be in power until he's dead What I can't understand at the moment is why anybody with any sort of seniority would come out and be interviewed about the latest alleged scandal, deny that there was any knowledge of it - in the way that one cabinet minister (I can't remember who it was) was doing yesterday - while now knowing full well that the rug was going to be pulled later the same day. They're following what has now become a well-worn path on this - denials, then a slight change of message followed by a further slight change of message, repeated until they arrive at a position that's effectively 180 degrees from where the official line started. They're playing with wording while the general population isn't interested in semantics, it's clear now that every time a scandal comes up they're just lying. And if it's not clear then for a lot of us it's assumed as the default position. The progress of the No.10 approach to the latest scandal, stolen from another site: "New version for this morning:
- He wasn't aware of "any allegations" against Chris Pincher - He wasn't aware of "specific allegations" - He wasn't aware of "serious specific allegations" - He was aware of specific allegations, but only unproven ones. - What we meant was that he was aware of specific and serious allegations that were investigated and shown to be valid, but no formal disciplinary action was taken against Pincher as a result."It's another farce!
