Crazy but it's one of these low mileage conundrums, use it and watch the value fall, don't use it and, well, why bother.

Thing is of you have enough money and a bit of a hankering for your youth then I can see this going for that sort of money.
I remember them as the ultimate hot hatch of their time (my youth), if I had stupid money then yes I probably would buy one at that money, along with a phase 2 Clio V6 and and Megane R26R (both going for silly money); last of the ultimate, no compromise, not diluted "analogue", hot hatches.

As much as I loved my 205 and would love another one, that is truly ridiculous money. At £28k you'd not want to drive it and what is the point of a driver's car you can't drive? Scene tax has driven the prices of cars like this into the clouds - look how much Fiesta XR2s, Sierra Cosworths and Astra GTEs go for nowadays. Shocking prices.
You'd be crackers to pay more than £5k for a 205 GTi. With the greatest will in the world, it's a 23 year old car at the very best (If you don't mind a watered down diet cat-equipped sunroof late model version) and no 23 year old common or garden hatch should be worth that. They were massively popular - loads were sold - so rarity is not really a thing, even taking into account the amount that were crashed or converted into Mi16 engined rockets.
Had mine survived, it would be 30 years old this year and would be highly prized - A non-sunroof, electric window 1.9 (With a raft of very naughty engine mods courtesy of one time Pug rally mechanic Skip Brown). I paid £1000 for it and got £140 scrap when it died.
Collectors and speculators drive the costs of cars up. Anyone who buys a 'drivers' car not to drive it but to make money needs to be removed from the gene pool.
Also have you noticed how many barn finds there are nowadays? When did we erect all these barns in the UK?

Me and my dad were thinking about this the other day; what if he had kept his 205 1.9, and his E30? Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
