My parents have something very similar in the 'snug', which is a room they only use for watching the TV and keeps the Living Room TV free. Do you have a special place to store these? Don't get it?!

I'll take the feedback....a joke is never funny if you have to explain it..... Small TV = Theatre Glasses required and I thought I'd struck gold (literally!) when I did a Google image search and spotted some Rolex ones, as you may have mentioned that brand a couple of times.

Apart from anything I just dislike the vast black screen that sits there lowering at you when the TV is not on. That need not be the case; I know 2 couples that have TVs that, when not in use, show a piece of art (there are numerous to choose from). I often forget it's a TV at all.

They can look good and they have a very small cable to a control box, so when you wall or bracket mount you don't have a couple of unsightly cables showing below the TV. Ours doesn't have that, so even though we've reduced the cable by running everything though an AV receiver, it sits on a unit rather than on a bracket fixed to the wall. With Racings set up, I'd have to bring the cables along the back of the TV then use a cable tidy so they were bound together but could still move to allow the TV to rotate.

Yes I know I need to tidy up the cables. There is a built in system at the back, but I need to do it carefully so that the articulating arm can still operate.

Yes, the older "frame" TVs were - but now almost any TV can show a picture or even mimic the wall colour. Our Samsung has the separate box for all the inputs and very thin glass fibre cable that runs to the TV mounted on the wall, barely noticeable. I can take a photo of the wall, even with wallpaper on and the TV will blend its screen into that. Or I can have that great photo of the tennis girl scratching her arse from behind.

Possibly this one can do that, but presumably it needs to then be on? This is the bracket.

This is the new Sony in situ. The closed unit under the TV had to have a smoked glass door as it houses the satellite box and DVD player and the remotes won’t work if the door isn’t glass. IKEA do something like this, my in-laws have had one for about 10 years.

Off topic but that grandfather clock is like the one my mum has. She always wanted one and when I was about 13 she persuaded my dad to get one for her birthday. It came and every 15 mins it quietly chimed away and on the hour discreetly bonged the hours out. Then one day, about a year later, I was in the house by myself and decided to investigate it, peering up into the workings I found a load of foam packing around the chimes, which I removed. That night we were all sitting watching TV when the clock chimed out 7pm - it was now incredibly loud - my mum jumped out of her skin, my dad woke up thinking it was a fire alarm. Took us weeks to get used to it.

That looks fine Racing.
I looked at Hulsta who make some gorgeous sliding front wall units that can hide the tv at the same time as providing shelf and display space.
The set up in our family room drives me mad after 7 years now and the living room is unchanged since we moved in. The former is a simple resolution the latter a new room design altogether. Apparently the dressing room is more important in 2021. Then older girl’s room. Then hopefully the living room!

Took us weeks to get used to it. Ah yes, Big Ben as I rather unimaginatively call it. It also chimes the quarter hour, with a choice of "Westminster" or "Whittington" chimes, and runs for eight days or so. But we only turn on the chimes to amuse guests, as my wife otherwise finds them irritating (they are pretty loud).I inherited it. It has a silver plaque on the front recording that it was presented (presumably as a rather grand alternative to a gold watch) to my great-grandfather in recognition of his service as Master of Haileybury from 1914-1921. It bears a crest with the school's coat of arms above the face. So it's celebrating its centenary this year.

Ours is from here: www.msg.it/en/We actually ordered it in Italy via a home furnishings store in my wife's home town. It was considerably cheaper, notwithstanding the delivery cost.

If you leave ours on the menu page (I think) it seems to default to the windows screensaver pictures, which are quite nice in the corner of the room

The Old Haileyburians rugby club was the neighbour of my squash club of 20+ years which was a walk from my paternal home (and on the way to school) and I have played football, cricket, rugby and even softball on the pitches. The groundsman there was also the groundsman for the old Wimbledon FC training ground opposite Robin Hood Gate, scene of many shenanigans in the Crazy Gang days.

There you go. From memory he started as a housemaster at Marlborough and then went on to be Master at Sedburgh, Haileybury and finally Wellington. I remember granny telling me that meeting her future in-laws for the first time involved going for dinner at the Master's Lodge at Wellington, which she said was a distinctly unnerving experience. And she was not the type to be easily unnerved by anything.

Went with that Panasonic in the end. It's the biggest that will fit, had good reviews and she spends a lot of time watching TV, so might as well get a half-decent one. Got it from Richer Sounds for the six year warranty and will be delivered tomorrow. Then her local TV installer will pop around on Friday with a new Manhattan FreeSat box and install both.

Thread revival!! Have moved back into the refurbished house and seriously contemplating a bigger TV. The one I have is good (high end 55” Sony backlit from a few years back) but I’m tempted all the same as the space could handle a larger TV and it’s something I watch a fair bit and enjoy for sport etc also. I can get a very good deal on a 2022 Samsung Neo-OLED model (75” QN95B) as they are heavily discounted and also available through my perks at work scheme on an additional 20% discount (so about £1800 for last years top line 75” PLUS they will throw in a free 32” ‘The Frame’ TV also) Looking more at LED still as the room is bright (6m south facing glass windows) and deals on OLEDs not as good. Any advice/caveats? Current 55” in situ
Edit to add - excuse the utter lack of decor - most stuff still in boxes!!!

I’ve been really happy with the LG 65C8 I bought for the Living Room 4 years ago, so when I wanted to buy one for the extension I went for the latest version, the 65C2, which is still the top rated TV on Whathifi. It was £400 cheaper than we paid last time, as it’s about to be replaced..
I did think about getting the 75” version, but the 65” is the right size for where we have the sofa. Really pleased with it.
Blinds will sort the light problem out. We’ve had ours fitted now along the 5.5m bi-fold, went for the electric ones I mentioned before and they are spot on. Also have electric heat/blackout blinds on the Velux windows. All are grouped for ease but can be operated individually so no issues with glare on the TV.

Edit to add - excuse the utter lack of decor - most stuff still in boxes!!! Id still go OLED - one of the main drawbacks of OLED was they didn’t go as bright as LED . The last few years OLEDs have really improved when it comes to brightness (LG call it EVO, Samsung call it Quantum Dot) which both the C2 and S95 have

Having mocked up some cardboard for screen size the 65” seems best fit otherwise it completely dominates. That opens up more options inc the LGC2 (which I would get above the G2 as it’s far better value)
The QLED still go a fair bit brighter but the gap has closed and the added contrast of OLED would help balance I’m sure. Off angle viewing isn’t a big consideration but a bonus regardless.
Annoyingly the Samsung site (where I can get the best deals) are out of stock on the S95B (and the ‘C’ model I can’t justify despite a good price!)
The main appeal of the QLED Samsung right now is value to be honest. I can get it nearly £300 cheaper than the LG OLED price at Costco with a £450 32” Frame TV thrown in that I could resell for a few hundred making the difference about £600 which is a chunk of change!
Will keep thinking!

Have you considered a projector?
I’ve seen a few in cinema rooms in houses but I’d assume you’d need blinds as they’re pretty windowless.

A projector is a no-go. In a dedicated space perhaps but this is an open plan kitchen / living room so sticking with the standard format.
>6m span of south facing sliding doors (less than 10cm of sight lines across that span) so a lot of ambient daylight but we are getting blinds that could be used to reduce glare
At this time of year the sun is high enough that it doesn’t directly strike the TV but at other times of year it will. However, probably only during earlier hours so it’s perhaps less of an issue than I initially thought although I’m far less inclined to draw blinds during the cooler months (hotter months they help regulate temperature).
After a lot of further research comparing stats of my current LED (Sony 55XF90) to more modern OLED I think my concerns are unfounded.
So, I’m almost certain it will be an OLED - likely LG unless I get a stellar deal crop up on Samsung.
