For what it's worth, the main thread on this topic is perhaps the first time we've ever had a discussion on here where part way through I've realised that it is absolutely not one I want to have any part in whatsoever. That's not closing down debate. That's just me deciding there are limits to what I can waste my time engaging with. It's a shame but I think we're in dispute over the means not the issue. I'm sure we agree racism abhorrent but I disagree with the identity politics approach to tackling it that the BLM movement is. I dislike identity politics in general as it tends to be a vehicle of the left (which BLM is) and by its nature divides people rather than bring them together but also stifles debate. If you disagree with anything BLM do you're racist, the same is true of Extinction Rebellion, if you disagree with their approach you're a denier and as a consequence no real action is taken to tackle an issue.

Yes, it's perfectly possible to care about an issue but dislike the means of highlighting it. That doesn't make you a bad person just because you don't agree.

This seems to be a problem prevalent with a lot of younger or identify with any cause they can get angry about. Anything will do just to allow them to feel able to throw their weight around.
I have been called a Moslem killer and a child killer because I was in Op Granby and a volunteer to boot. Being likened to a NAZI is not pleasant but they can apparently say and do what they want. How do they think the right to do that came about?

It seems that if you're not with us you're against us. And life is never that clear - it is never black and white (can I still say that, probably not?) but always shades of grey.

Well, can someone explain why teachers, years ago, were told no longer to refer to a "blackboard" and instead call it a "chalkboard", but it's perfectly OK for them to call a "whiteboard" a "whiteboard"

I'm not going to grace that topic by re-starting the debate here either.
