Managed to restore a bit of normality over the weekend and get a swim. Did you find you needed a new prescription? Sorry, I couldn't resist the joke. We also went out on the water on Sunday, but in an electric boat on the Thames between Bray and Cookham. Got an amiable wave from Michael Parkinson who was sat in his riverside garden looking very tanned and luxuriantly white-maned.

I didn't but a few cyclist on the way could do with them. It was tremendous fun and the lake I visited was heaving with open water swimmers and other people getting out to enjoy a bit of exercise.

We passed a chap in a wetsuit doggedly swimming along the Thames. No spring chicken either. Apparently he does it most days.

My weekend was spent rubbing down old wood!
My wife decided that instead of getting a new kitchen she would rather do the bathrooms BUT the kitchen would still need to change dramatically. Thankfully it is a good quality solid wood kitchen so I have taken all the doors, plinths and panels off and have rubbed every one of them down and then cleaned and dried them off. My wife has done most of the painting and is doing a pretty good job with no runs and a really smooth finish. It's still not finished: I have two large pan drawers to dismantle and two cupboards on the island which still need rubbed down and painted but it is beginning to look great.

I bet she wooden say that. Particularly as I initially misread it as "My wife has done most of the panting"....

I've got 4 sheds that need to be painted, added it to my B&Q shopping list and on Saturday turned up to find the only stuff left on the shelves was the Cuprinol stuff that's £36 a tin.
Bummer.

It’s an old gravel pit, reasonably large and very clear. Quite well known in the tri community in North Yorkshire

I've done a bit of furniture restoration. A very old chest of drawers we have had woodworm in the feet so I removed the two good ones to see if I could knock some up. They were only simple bun feet so I did succeed making some from a pine plank and then "turning" them using a drill and sandpaper. They didn't look right, though, as the grain was off, even though they would barely show, so I got a friend with a wood shop to make me two more out of oak. He reckons the chest is probably beech but he never had any to hand. The oak ones swelled when they were stained (water based) and I had to keep staining then smoothing them back to get a nice finish on them but got there eventually.

Emotional times this morning as the chickens laid their first egg (several weeks after they arrived).

I have a tee time booked tomorrow night at 6.10 and another for 7am on Sunday and I can't wait. I have really missed my 4 mile hilly walk every Sunday morning and the odd delight when I hit the ball really well. I am just hoping I don't finish two round with the feeling that I should pack it all in!

It's more likely you'll finish the 2nd round and realise that an enforced break leaves you unfit - even if you've been walking more in the meantime.

And my playing partner just told me that he has bought a new electric trolley. I push mine so I am going to be considerably more tired than him but I am sure I will just enjoy being back out in the countryside.

I used one of the HillBilly 3 wheeled powered buggies - as effective as the Callaway (possibly, what was the one everyone had?) one but substantially cheaper and with the added bonus of it reducing the amount of back pain I had from either carrying a bag or towing one on a trolley.

I have a Motocaddy EV, us golfers are well ahead in adopting this new green technology.
82 new members at our golf course in the last two weeks.

My Strava feed (which I've been on more than Facebook since the crisis, which at this time I find even more annoying that usual) suggests otherwise. I have ended up doing 5 days of running or cycling a week and some tennis, walks, and weights as well (some short walks every day). Friends have been doing far more - some are running 10-15k a day and also cycling a fair bit and walking! Probably the sorts of people I associate with but some are way up on their pre crisis levels, all are quite well up, myself included... I have discovered I can't run every day - I already have a groin injury (osteisis pubis - not good) which limits me to 2/3 runs a week and nothing that long (maybe up to 10 miles) but even aside from that my knees and other things don't like more than every other day. Happily cycling is kinder (until you crash into a bed of nettles chasing a Strava segment time off road, as I discovered last week!!).

I remembered last night that it was Powakaddys I was thinking of, they were exorbitant. My clubs are currently in the boot of the Fiat, they haven't seen the light of day for several years now having moved between a variety of storage places.

I meant that if you have an enforced break from golf specifically I've found that when you go back to it its more tiring even if you have replaced the activity with something else - e.g. walking 4 miles while playing golf isn't the same exercise as walking 4 miles, even if the only apparent difference is swinging a club a few times!

It's the new super compact Motocaddy that my playing partner has bought. They have been on special offer probably because the normal early season purchasers didn't bother when they couldn't play. I consider pushing my trolley as part of my essential exercise. My club hasn't made any comment on new members but today, tomorrow and Sunday are 100% booked up from 7am to 8pm. It's just a pity the bar and catering won't benefit but I have already suggested they get a barbecue and do bacon and sausage rolls outside. The pro is beside himself with excitement and is offering 20% discount on everything in the hope that it will kick start his year. I hope he gets some decent trade.

I've got the Motocaddy M1, which was the first compact one they did. I think the current one is about 20% smaller again. I've had no problems with it and with a lithium battery it's much lighter and charges quicker. I suggested to Mrs Sacamano that with her being furloughed for the foreseeable future she should get out with her clubs so she's joined our course. She has got great secondhand Motocaddy S1 for £40 - it's bit bulky compared to the M1, but I refurbed it and I'm loathe to spend £500 on another M1. I'm hoping our club does something similar with a BBQ - even get some bottled beers in buckets of ice for people to buy. In the meantime I've insulated one of the pockets on my golf bag and with an ice pack in there I can keep 4 bottles of Peroni cold until we finish the round.

Ah yes golf must be so tough Must be - I've lost 4kg but added that weight to my bag in the form of beers! I've also been cycling a lot and walking. When I had my hip replaced two years ago they said I could return to running but I'd only wear out the HDPE socket quicker so I decided to stick sports that didn't incur such impacts. Running just knackers your joints.

I've never considered running as a good form of exercise, especially pavement pounding. Anyone do it the barefoot style where you land forefoot first?
