It was pub quiz tonight. I don't usually question the answers as I can't be arsed, but tonight was an exception.
The question. Ayrton Senna was killed 1st May 1994 while racing in a grand prix. Where did he die?
I was wrong apparently (although I know I'm right) but am simply interested in your answers.

Well as we all know, the accident itself was at Imola. I think he actually drew his last breath in the hospital he was taken to, but I wouldn't swear to it.

That's what I Answered - Imola - and was wrong.

The San Morino Grand Prix. Yes, that's the name of the race, but the question asked the location. This is why I can't be arsed with the pub quiz!

From what I read, I believe that he died at the track but for convenience, issues with Italian Law and racing etc, he was taken to hospital and attempts made to revive him so that the place of death could be given as the hospital rather than at the racetrack.
Can we move onto less morbid topics now please??

The guy reading the questions probably didn't know the San Marino Grand Prix is held in the town of Imola and just went by what's in his answers. I'd have just shown him the a screen shot on your phone from when you looked it up.

I would have answered San Marino, would that have been wrong as it didn't mention Grand Prix?

I once successfully predicted a question in a pub quiz.

I actually got a question right in a pub quiz once, can't remember what it was though.

The quiz master is a knob. That’s all I can conclude from this.

Can we move onto less morbid topics now please?? I'm pretty sure that it was always the F1 way that, after serious crashes, drivers always "died in hospital" and were never pronounced dead at the scene. That might be to avoid having to say that people were killed at a track, or it might be that no doctor immediately present is qualified to pronounce a death. I'm not sure which.

I set lots of quizzes and would've let either answer stand as correct.

I set lots of quizzes and would've let either answer stand as correct. Surely "in his seat" would have been equally correct?

The truth is that the question shouldn't have been written so it was so ambiguous. I'd have written it thus: At which Grand Prix (or Grand Prix circuit) did Ayrton Senna die? And for a bonus point give the year.

That's how it should have been written - no ambiguity.

I’d have said in a helicopter on his way to hospital is most likely.
He was dead to me when he left McLaren.
What ..... too soon?

Maybe the quizmaster just had the answers and not the knowledge. I got drafted in to be a quiz master at a charity quiz once at the last minute due to illness of the guy who was to do it (it was fund raising for a charity I was involved with) - he’d sent the questions and answers over. Out of 100 questions, I only knew the answer to two!
