Well, this weekend was decision time and the decision surprised me! We went back to Jaguar to look over the i-Pace again. We looked around the car, checked out the small differences in trim etc and Susan played around with the infotainment system to see what was different to hers -not much really! I asked if she was happy that we just do a deal (still waiting on the business manager to call us despite the email from a colleague last week to say he would call today) but she asked if we could go along to look at BMWs. I thought these had already been dismissed but apparently she still had a niggling feeling that she hadn't liked the i4 we drove last year because it was a basic model in a colour she didn't like etc etc. So we ended up in BMW talking to a salesman who was not only knowledgeable but completely not pushy and able to do business contract hire quotes without needing a business manager! We saw around the cars and took a test drive in an i4 M50 with all the toys and she liked it. In particular she liked the fact that it was 4WD which gave her extra confidence especially when we live at the top of a hill. She felt the infotainment system was much more modern and more intuitive and the car was certainly fast enough (3.9s to 62). The ride in Comfort was exceptionally good (BMW are apparently moving away from run flats) and Sport wasn't too stiff. I wasn't sure about the lack of buttons and knobs for different controls but that apparently singles me out as a tech dinosaur and all I need to do is speak to the car! The official range is also about 40 miles more than the i-Pace in official figures but its increased efficiency means it loses less than the Jag in real world driving, so probably about 270 for the BMW as opposed to 220 for the Jag in the real world which would make a difference. In the end we managed to haggle a contract hire figure out of them which was only marginally more than the Jag but also included maintenance. The car has all the packs available and will be in Tanzanite blue with Oyster leather. Coming to us in July hopefully. I checked online and one of the online brokers was about £15/mth cheaper but there was a £250 fee so overall not worth it to walk away and then have to start the process again and find out that they couldn't find a car in the right colour, spec etc etc etc. I am sad that we won't have another i-Pace because it's a great car let down by glitchy software and crap dealer service. I also prefer to be a passenger in it than in the i4. However it's not my car and I hadn't realised but Susan was really impressed with my car when we went up to Dingwall last week for a funeral and that set her thought process going that maybe she should look at BMW again. I had a test sit in the BMW dealer and it was a very nice place to be (apart from lack of physical controls)

I like PHEV and EV in the right place and can see us getting something like a mazda mx-30 phev as Mrs M's car when the time comes to replace the Yeti - but hopefully not for many years.
My plan having assembled an ecclectic mix of motors is(once I've finished building on the house) is get them in running condition and hope they last me out. I don't like touch screens and nothin new really appeals anymore - so i think I will be fishing in the pre 2018/19 pond for as long as I can

Oh yeah: price. Italy can be ferociously expensive. You pay nothing for hundreds of kms then sudden go through a toll and it’s €50+ The others are all around €10-15 for a ten day vignette. Also are you collecting and dropping the car at the same location? If not there will be a charge. Thank you all great advice, which company provided decent excess coverage? The cdw charges seem ridiculous at £50/day! Drop off/pick up Venice is the plan

Hi all, I know some of you rent cars frequently abroad. My Father in law is looking for a decent sized hire car (4 adults and luggage ) to do a European road trip from Venice/Austria/Slovakia/chech republic
Full request below but any tips on hiring a car, companies to use or avoid and is going between countries and issues in Europe?
Details are: pick up Sept 24th 2024 ~10am from Venice Santa Lucia Train Station or Venice Marco Polo Airport; drop off Oct 4th ~5pm at Marco Polo Airport; that is 11 days hire. We would be 4 adults with luggage (our overall trip is 18 days). We would want an automatic. Questions are: 1. What size/style of car should we look at? 2. We plan to drive in Italy, Slovenia, Austria and Czech Republic - what motorway permits and stickers do we need, how do we get them and how much do they cost

I've never seen it called that, went for the name that matches an expensive Italian boat on the 1st go and then gave up. Yes, I did too, but it was SO like that car I didn't think it was anything else, and had a distant (almost out of sight!!) memory of this name somewhere .. .. that was my second a final guess though! I think the speedboat is the UK name for the car, so I'm claiming it as a win!😂

I got it in one/two having started with the Henley on Thames recreation rather than a genuine one. Think it was because the headlight internals looked a bit modern

Those little bumpers are the give away. In one. Love these but would you have an early one or a late model with all the wings? Late model with wings, cause I'm a tart when I comes to such things!
