Wow. The car just sits down and goes, and the driver absolutely nails it everywhere. Traction out of slower corners and acceleration as soon as the car is pointing vaguely straight is just amazing!

It's not supposed to sound great, but it's startling.
I thought it was a slightly liberalised Le Mans car, but it's been tweaked to buggery - I hadn't picked that up. One lap tyres, an additional steering pump to allow the driver to cope with the loads, a 53% increase in downforce in comparison with Le Mans ,it's 66% more efficient aerodynamically, lighter, has more energy recovery and more powerful electric motors. It's still a fucking mighty achievement, though.
And quicker than the 2017 Belgian GP pole position time at Spa by 0.8s. In standard spec it was 12s slower. If you just 'pro rata' the lap times (which I accept is ludicrously unscientific), the standard car would still have clocked a 5 min 50...

Driving at that speed on the 'ring must take quite a bit of recalibration for the driver. The cornering speeds were ridiculous.

Just lost 20 minutes watching these again. Timo Bernhard (Nurburgring) and Neel Jani (Spa) are seasoned LMP1 pros with 3 Le Mans wins between them, but even they must have been pretty wide-eyed stepping out of this thing. Bernhard's commitment and belief in the car, especially into the fast corners, is mindblowing.
