Allroads are too heavy on fuel and tax for me. I've always had a soft spot for the 300C wagons, wood trim notwithstanding, but as much as I like spannering, I don't want to have to be doing anything before I drive it away. Vectra is not a bad shout, but slightly out of my budget and I suspect it'll feel like a massive downward step from the SAAB in terms of quality and feel.

555 quid is ridiculous for road tax. The R class scares me a but anyway, it's a barge of a thing with 4wd and air suspension, not ideal for 2 and a half grand.
I've arranged to go and view the E46 on Saturday.

^ Never consistently got over 40mpg from mum's 2005 model (54 plate) D5 auto, in fact it was generally a struggle to get over 30mpg out of it unless it was on the motorway for most of the journey. The V50 is a lot smaller inside and out My D5 auto was about 30 to 32 in town but once on A roads and, especially motorways, it got better and better. 52mpg return to Scotland, over 950 miles.

Ironically, just as I'm about to pension the Saab off, it decides to start running on air. The last 2 weeks have seen economy improve from 44 to 48mpg without any change in driving style. I can only equate it to the new boost sensor I fitted a few weeks back after it kept dropping into limp mode.
I even had the seats cleaned yesterday.

SOLD.
After a week on Ebay and Facebook Marketplace, it was Facebook that came through in the end. Loads of interest, several views (Including one guy who only wanted it to drive 4 miles each way to work. Not ideal for a DPF equipped car) and it was a guy who came last minute just as the Ebay ad came to an end who bought it. I had it up for £1000, sold it for £800, which is what I was expecting. Not bad considering it cost me £2600 three years ago exactly, so aside from basic running costs and maintenance, it has cost me £600 per year. I can't argue, I did 50k in it, treated it like a car should be treated and enjoyed every minute of it. Especially the seats, the stereo, the ergonomics and the amazing pop-out cupholder.
8/10, would buy again. Although next time would have to be a TTiD Aero with all the kit and a slusher. We'll see.

I saw the ad, very good:
