Happy days. Has the Boxster's fate been decided yet? No, not yet, but there is a high chance it will go......

Personally I fond it absolutely ludicrous that it takes 4 weeks to get from factory to dealership. My Captur was stuck at the import centre for about 2 weeks in 2014.... why? It's afairly straightforward job to park it up off the ship, then get it on a transporter and have it driven to the garage. If a train is used to get the car across europe, it should take only a few working days to move it to the UK, and a few more to get it to the supplying dealer. It does vary a lot. The 535d took about 3 weeks, some people have had their Golf in 2 weeks, others have waited longer because it sat in the port for 4 weeks. No idea how long it will be, but 4 weeks seems to be the average.

You’re paying all that money and they’re going to send you a boggo mk5! I do hope not! To be fair, the one in the picture does have front fog lights, so it could be a Match.

It is unlikely that they will send a transporter to the docks just for Martin's car as soon as it arrives and more probable that they will have scheduled slots to go and pick up a batch, maybe once or twice a month.

Have you been told your Golf is getting a power cut, Martin? No, it won’t because it was built before the WLTP change / need to fit a particulate filter. The factory is shut now, the new cars should start to be made from September, If you ordered an R now, you wouldn’t see it before Feb/Mar.

If they were importing one single car I'd agree, however VW import over 350,000 cars a year to the UK so that's a 1000 cars a day going through their import centres with peaks in March and September. All those vehicles have to go through PDI and possible remedial work before being transported to dealers. I'm surprised it's only 4 weeks.

^ I thought that the dealership performed PDI and any remedial work. Again, going back to when I workedfor a Tier 1 supplier in the 90's, there was an aim to get from factory to customer in 14 days so it shouldn't take more than 10 days to ship from mainland Europe to the local garage...... that's what I'm basing my expectations on

It might well be possible to deliver in two weeks in quiet times but you have to bear in mind they are working with a fixed number of workers in an industry where deliveries for two months (March, Sept) can be three or four times other months. How do you smooth out those peaks and troughs?

Just had a call from VW, it’s at the Listers PDI centre in Coventry, arrived yesterday afternoon. It’s been 8 weeks since the order was placed, 3 weeks since it was built and 5 days (3 working days) from arrival at port.
It’s going to be delivered on the morning of Saturday 21st July. As it’s an R, they will put it onto a vehicle rather than drive it down , which I would have insisted on anyway!
I’ve asked them not to put any stickers in and also to remove the badge, but she says that the paint has been damaged when they’ve removed badges before so they won’t do it....Mmmmmnnnnn..... Lindsay had (slightly reluctantly!) agreed to have it removed to keep me happy. I might do it myself, depends on how much it bothers me.

I thought they put the badges on at the dealer's anyway. Hair dryer and dental floss to the rescue

I thought they put the badges on at the dealer's anyway. Hair dryer and dental floss to the rescue I don’t know, mustn’t be the case with the R. Yes, I thought it was that easy. It took a couple of minutes for the dealer to remove the cheap plastic M wing badges from the 535d when I picked it up and the BMW dealer took the badges off the rear and sides on the 750 without question. I forgot to collect them as a souvenir.

Lindsay had (slightly reluctantly!) agreed to have it removed to keep me happy. I might do it myself, depends on how much it bothers me. That's where I had my Scirocco from - they called me to say it had arrived and it would be ready in a week's time. I told them that the last two new cars I had had were ready to be collected on the day they arrived at the dealer and I expected better than 7 days. The contract hire company also said they would take a week to sort out the paper work. Listers agreed to have it ready in two days and I told the contract hire company they would have to have the paper work ready for when I collected it - they called back to say they would lend me a Ka to drive to Coventry (200 miles) and I could leave it there. When I got to Listers there was a bit of red carpet treatment, with the car waiting in pride of place in a podium on the forecourt, so everyone redeemed themselves. Enjoy next Sat!

I can’t believe there isn’t a Boxster thread..... . No need for one now....it’s sold. Took a bit longer than expected but the price was quite strong due to the spec. Feel a bit sad about it, but Lindsay loves the Golf and doesn’t seem all that bothered. Will be different when it’s warm and sunny I’m sure.

Good stuff. Sort of.
You’ve had one so that’s ticked off the list.

Good stuff. Sort of. You’ve had one so that’s ticked off the list. Yes, that’s how I feel about it. First tick, as there’s still a Porsche on the list, ideally a recent 911, but could be tempted by a well specced Panamera Turbo in the future.
