Er, I can see plenty of creases just from that picture above. If you want an A Class I hope you fir the required profile - late 20s, gymgoer, pushy, chip on your shoulder, etc

Don't think I'm any of those, especially the first two! I'm not even late 40s any more.

If I was in the market for that kind of car, I think it would likely be one of the first I would look at - it'll take 5 years or so before prices come down to the point where it's popular with the yoofs - round here the A Class seems to have picked up where the Corsa was 10 years ago - I guess the youngsters of today are a bit more affluent?
Definitely not in matt grey though!

I was very fond of the old one, hopefully this will look as naughty and rally-ready in AMG trim, the old one looked like a rally car to my eyes!
This is the new Merc nose then, as per new CLS. I followed one of them the other day and really liked the rear, it may be a bit Audi like but it looks good to me, and hides its size well- I had to Google whether the CLS was still the big coupe based on the E Class.

Looks like a bodyshop job where they graft the front off an entirely different car onto something.

I only skim-read it as yet, but I believe a piece in this week's Autocar suggests that the A is the third best-selling car in the UK at the moment.

Rumour has it that the next 130/135/140i, or whatever made up number it'll end up with, will be AWD, so let's hope it's not ugly. Third time lucky BMW, come on, you can do it! Part of the problem with BMW is that we only get the cars the marketing department of BMW UK think will sell (hence no current M140i XDrive in the UK). As I understand it, the new 1 series is basically going to be FWD but with the most powerful models they are going to have to make then 4WD for the traction.
The new M340i is going to be 4WD and about 370hp. Personally I wish they had pushed that up to nearer 400hp and that would have given the C43/E53 more of a run for its money. The 4 series coupe will probably follow the 3 series but the new 4 Series Grand Coupe is rumoured to be electric so the only 4 door choice will be the 3 series which is another error of judgement in my eyes.

Put right off this car now. The A35 is now on the configurator and it's a bewildering mess. None of the options are explained in any detail and if you try and add one it gets bundled with several others that you don't want. You want the 19" wheels that prevent your A35 from looking like all the other A Class models, Sir? Well, they are only available with the Aero Package, the dark tinted windows and the AMG Night Package for £2,395. What is the Night Package, Sir? Well, the Night Package is the Night Package, isn't it!You'd also like the Matrix headlights, Sir? Well they're only available in our Premium Plus Package which is just shy of £4,000. What this means is you get lots of stuff you don't want including a sunroof, rear armrest, keyless entry etc and added to the wheels and gash Aero shite your A35 is now well over the £40K threshold, which means you'll be saddled with an extra VED bill for years. Have a good day, Sir!After further digging it appears that the Night Package IS the dark tinted windows, so the supposedly three options foisted upon a prospective buyer* if they want nicer wheels are actually only two. *this is no longer me!
I'm reminded of a line from the song Eye Of The Beholder by Metallica:
"You can do it your own way, if it's done just how I say"
I saw a new A Class yesterday and, from behind, honestly thought it was a Hyundai until I saw the badge.

The front end is still wrong, like it has the headlights from a completely different manufacturer grafted on, as was popular in the Max Power scene in the early 2000s.

I still can't understand why the F30 in 340i flavour was rwd only but they sold the 330d & 335d as xDrive only. Perhaps its why there are so few 340i estates when I'm looking.
As far as I can tell the A Class in basic form , i.e. without delving into the expensive options list, has absolutely zero to recommend it ahead of any of the other mid-size hatches, apart from the 3 pointed star badge.

I think if you are part of the under 25, permanently fixed to a device, generation, the connectivity and tech make it a more appealing option than the competition.

Yes, some of the tech is a differentiator.
I understand the frustration with the packs, but think they are a good thing overall as they have some residual value (which helps with monthly PCP costs) and if you are buying used, it’s easier to get a car with some decent options. The only issue I’d have is bundling the bigger wheels with the aero kit.

Is the tech standard though, or do your parents have to spring extra cash to add it to the monthly rentals?
Tech is spreading rapidly - the Micra has Apple car play and if you go up to the N-Connecta model you get Nav and (I think) voice stuff.

I would bother with built in Nav if Apple CarPlay is available or an option, it’s not as well integrated as a decent Nav system but is a match for a more basic one.
Yes, the more interesting tech is a fairly expensive option.

Wasn’t it because x drive was based on SE suspension, and a lot of owners had to upgrade to ACS dampers and the like I’m presuming X drive on the m340i will be based on m sport ?

A35 reviews seem pretty good. Still not sure about the interior of Mercs but I seem to be in the minority. Certainly worth further investigation

Had a look at this weeks Autoexpress because it's got an A35 group test, it comes last but not by a huge amount. Didn't have adjustable dampers which didn't help, but the Golf R rode and handled a bit better and was (fractionally!) quicker. The Civic won, no surprise, but it doesn't matter how amazing it is, I just couldn't.

So, the A45S will cost just under £51k, but add the plus pack as most will (adaptive dampers, sunroof, body kit, Burmester, electric seats) and the price is.....
£56,570!!
The CLA versions are a couple of £K more.
