Nuts, I missed pole in the predictions thread which is annoying as I had Vettel down for that. Oh well, must do better.

Are channel 4 even showing highlights? Don't know, but it was on live so maybe not. (Not that I was in to see it mind)

I wasn’t surprised to see that prick Grosjean crash into a wall whilst behind the safety car. I was also amused that for all the BBC Sport polls about whether Vercrashen or Ridicuaddio was the better driver one forgot to brake and the other weaved about into his path.
Shit track; safety car 100% cost Seb a win; Kimi just cruised round to get 2nd. Happy for Checo and LeClerc.

Can't agree on all that. Would have been interesting to see if Bottas could of hunted down Vettel once he switched to the Ultras softs, I'd have fancied his chances.
Great track for me, a 200mph straight followed by a 90 left is going to catch out the best and so it proved.
Can't see why everyone at Red Bull was upset, for a marketing team they couldn't have got more press coverage and those boys gave it everything.

I’m with Ed, it’s a track that can create a lot of mistakes, punishes the big ones and that plus a long straight, means overtaking is relatively easy.
Another race that was exciting to watch as well.

I only saw about 10 minutes - around the time Grosjean binned it - and had never seen the track before. It's an odd mix of wide open and very narrow but I preferred it to Monaco.
So, what happened with the Red Bulls?

Ricciardo had DRS and closed on Max at great speed; jinked right to go round the outside, then Max blocked, then Ricciardo went left and so did Max but at this point Max had to brake to make the corner as indeed did Ricciardo but of course Ricciardo was planning on being the last of the late brakers so he drove into Max. I laughed a lot.

Probably. Lauda reckons 70% Verstappen fault.

Saw it on demand. Agree with the sentiments on Grosjean binning it when he did, how ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as the ponderous recovery driver who made a right faff of getting the car off track. But that said, having such a short sprint to the finish did at least create an exciting end. My heart sank for Bottas though, what rotten luck.

I saw the restart and was actually surprised that Da Ham apparently couldn't draft past SV, were the Ferraris fast or was Da Ham butting against the limiter?

He was just using the brake pedal at the correct point and not overshooting the corner!

Probably. Lauda reckons 70% Verstappen fault. Paul di Resta put the majority of the blame on Verstappen as well. Ross Brawn's take:- “One of the key episodes of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was the collision between team mates Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen. I don’t want to comment on who might be held responsible or how a team should manage these issues during a race, but I do think the Steward’s decision to reprimand both drivers was the right course of action. "But I would like to highlight a technical point. Once Daniel had settled for his line, and Max had changed direction blocking that line *, the Australian became a passenger. The downforce loss experienced by Ricciardo in the wake of Verstappen’s car would have made it unstoppable. We often think of downforce applying in cornering, but the impact the extra grip has in braking is huge. Take away that grip in braking and what happened on Sunday was inevitable." *my emphasis

You could add that Verstappen made his 2nd move when blocking the line so he broke the rules and brought it on himself.
Having read a bit more about it surely Red Bull should've called a halt as the likelihood of a collision seems to have become a 100% certainty.
