Although as someone who is now getting less than 20mpg I can't say its a painless experience. That can't be the Cayman surely?

It’s a good suggestion and I know it’s difficult because they are so rare, but I don’t like the spec of either of those at all. I think the first one is at the place Stu got his Volvo.

What have I missed? Have you found yourself a GTS or GT4? I took your advice to live in the moment I’ve gone and got myself a racing yellow GT4 to use as my daily, track day monster and laugh out loud beast Nice, have I missed a thread on this one!? Back on the M5 topic, yes mine was the previous V10 E60. It could chew through £100's worth of fuel in 100 miles. And the SMG was a pain around town. But it had that awesome engine and a lovely leathery and comfy interior (mine did have the full leather with the suede headlining). Servicing was expensive but not overly so because I had it serviced by ML which is cheaper than a main dealer, more experienced and doesn't invalidate the BMW extended warranty. I think there is no substitute for test-driving a car. Try the F10 M5 and see if you like the experience. Everything else is just conjecture. I had no especial desire to own an E60 M5 until I drove mine.

Good work Ed!! I don't love 550i and so on (indeed the 5 in general is bigger than I want, I just like M5's). They are so ridiculously over-silenced, we think of V8's as naughty but for much of the world the non-sporty big petrol engine models are just luxury limos where people don't want to hear the engine. I've stood next to 550i's that were running and didn't even realise. You couldn't stand at the front end of any car I've owned in 20 years and not hear it was running, or fail to enjoy the sound of it driving off (the 550i may as well have been a Tesla). I'm very much looking at another XFR at the moment, XE's don't seem as reliable or as loved as the old XF, but I will drive one again. I'm struggling a bit with the emotional side of them. I'm an emotional buyer. M5's hit the spot, the XFR has been near perfect, I can get (very) excited about a Quadrifoglio and quite excited about current shape C63's (though I prefer the coupe and that's too recent). There are few if any XFR's for sale I like presently, and no dealer ones. My sensible head also still looks at 3/4 series (prefer 40i but 35i also) and of them I think I prefer the Touring overall, I do like this one as it has enough additional bits to not look as dull as my old 330i inside: www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201803285010053

The 40i engine is quite an improvement on the 35i engine by all accounts.
You know my car is running when the engine is on.

I'd watch their claim on adaptive suspension too - you would only know by going into the settings for comfort mode and sport mode to see if you have the option of changing the suspension.
I think something like this is a much better bet, albeit missing the carbon bodywork trim but having voodoo lights, sunroof and HUD. Also 19" wheels are better for the ride.

Inside is a bit mingin' but there must be similar about in more attractive colour combinations.

Cheers John - that's my fear, the "40i" engine does seem to have been a proper upgrade. That one is quite toppy for a 335i model but I just like how it looks inside and out.
What is it with 3 series Tourings and the "Oyster" leather? Loads of the 6 pot ones are blighted with it. Especially on a Touring, which might get harder use than a saloon, light leather seems weird. And like I said on the thread about XFR's, light seats I can handle, but when the door cards, lower dash, and headlining are all light as well, it looks nasty.
