I very much doubt there's any such thing as an official method for manufacturers.

I very much doubt there's any such thing as an official method for manufacturers. It will no doubt be controlled by the PR department and which cars they want to show they are faster than.

Mercedes A200 Sport.
Claimed 8s to 62. Actual 8.7 to 60.
Could be under 'How Much?' too, at £27,500 for a 1.3 turbo. £30k as tested, value after 3yrs (whilst still in Honeymoon/new model mode) just £12k. I presume that these are primarily fleet-friendly or 'renters'.
Could have been under 'How Heavy?' too, though in a (sort of) good way as it was 4kg beneath its less than svelte 1,379 claimed. I know that things move on, and that it's going to be a little larger, but that's almost as much as the 3.2 V6 4wd A3 I had before the RS4. And even closer to the V5 Passat that I had before that.

Bit late here, but I actually weighed my R32, as I used to work at a place that had a weighbridge. It was 1575kg with half a tank of fuel and me not in it, so I doubt the A3 version was 200kg lighter...

Possibly, though I am not entirely sure it wasn't based on the previous platform. It was noticeably smaller inside than my brother's V6 R32.

The 8P A3 was related to the mk5 Golf chassis-wise (PQ35 platform).

More than related, I'm sure. It was 3-door and smaller in the back, so I wonder what difference that would have made. Your Golf was 5-door?

You sort of lost me at 'Bentayga'. If there's ever been a stupider name for a car I'm struggling to bring it to mind.

The unutterably lovely thing that is the Vauxhall Combo Life (Energy 1.5 Turbo D 100, nonetheless) - claimed 0-60 of 12.7, managed 14.7. Also takes almost five seconds to crack 30. Wouldn't want to be joining any busy roundabouts in that fucker...

They didn't even bother doing a 0-100 mph time. I understand that modern cars are expensive to make and margins are thin, but 23k for that? If I ever get to a stage of my life when I want to drive around in a Vauxhall Combo Life, I think I'd rather just end things there.

I think there is a lot of joy to be had punting a slow van based vehicle around.
Also, lots of usefulness in 2000l plus of space in the back.

Just watched a silly drag race between a diesel Panamera and an SQ7. Look at the difference between the claimed 0-62 times... ...and the measured 0-60 times. 60 intead of 62 but still a pretty big difference, especially Ferdi's effort.

Bloody quick for a diesel though. The Panamera hybrid petrol also blew an M5 and E63S into the weeds on a drag race even though on paper it has a good bit less power - I think Porsche might be very conservative on power figures.

The Turbo S Hybrid has got a combined 680hp, so will do 0-60 in 3.2 and 0-100 in 6.6 secs. It’s not much quicker than the standard turbo thanks to its weight problem, but they have always outperformed the on paper stats. Autoexpress tested the new standard V6 Cayenne Hybrid, which now has o460 combined hp, it cracked 0-60 in 4.5sec and average 44mpg on test. Significantly quicker and more economical than the diesel competition.

Yes, full fat Turbo S V8 Hybrid, 680hp and a load of instant electric torque to get it off the line.
A hybrid I’d be very happy with.

Volvo S60 T8 AWD Polestar Engineered.
Claimed 4.4s to 62. Took 5.4s to 60.
Porky of approx. 1.1s, or 25%. Conditions were damp, but the piece specifically states that the car was not traction-limited off the line at all - and 0-100 of 12.6 is consistent with the achieved performance to 60.
Even with a modest option spend, it also looks set to lose 2/3rds of its value over three years.

JLR again:
Disco D180 AWD SE - lumbering to 60 in 10.3s. I know you don't buy the car for performance, but the truth isn't asking too much. No 'quoted' figure, but JLR quotes 8.6s for the heavier Velar with the same engine, so must be quoting iro 8.4s for this. Still, that Velar weights 2089kgs, as opposed to the 1953 of the Disco. Or it would, if the Disco didn't actually weigh 2145kgs.
It does have a panoramic glass roof, which must weight a good few kgs, but JLR must struggle to keep a straight face when the marketing department trots out its weight and acceleration figures...

They’re terrible for it.
The 180ho Velar is the one a Racing had, I’m pretty sure he said not much happened when you tried to accelerate.

You have seen a current shape Discovery haven’t you? I regularly follow one for some of my commute so maybe my eyes have become accustomed to that! Anyway, forget the look and just check out the badge - that's the most important thing nowadays!
