I wonder how many people tick the box for these things despite them costing so much. I'd rather have £1k to spend on a set of winter tyres.

Not every manufacturer charges £1k for it. Less than half that on Ford (although it doesn’t do stop start).

It’s isually expensive because it gets bundled with other things, especially the latest systems that steer to keep you in lane in the traffic as well.

Another bloomin Nissan Almera....although it is quite different to the last one. I always try and hire a car based on the ‘when in Rome’ Principle, so had booked a Proton Preve, rather than go8ng for the top group which was a Camry. Not an issue as we’re on a relatively small island, but still a bit disappointing and no option to change as Europcar met us at the airport with the car. Positives - Good aircon (most important feature here)a big boot and it’s much better than most of the taxis here. Negatives - Wallowy ride/handling, wheezy/noisy engine (1.5 with 99hp), very old fashioned 4 speed auto (overdrive!), uncomfortable flat seats. Such an ugly thing as well.....

Where are you? Somewhere in Malaysia?
I've just booked the rental car for our trip away during my time off between jobs - apparently it will be a petrol-powered "Renault Captur or similar". We shall see what materialises.

Good grief, that Almera is dire!
