A long, long time ago - 1991. Had a friend from uni days who lived near it, which always helps. I absolutely loved it. Avoid Mardi Gras - it's too busy and more than a bit 'spring break'.

The French Quarter was lovely - full of character and great fun at night. I still recall a guy winning a karaoke contest and winning a car. The aquarium was great, but we tended to roam about, rather than go sightseeing. There is, as you'd expect, lots of live music. I'm not a jazz fan, but it's worth trawling the bars to at least experience some trad jazz in situ, and there was an Irish bar where the guy sang traditional Irish songs that were wonderful.

Not a place to go dipping, skinny or not.

Great pictures. I've been on a paddle boat in Minneapolis but I don't know if it's still using a steam engine.
