One of the very few things I disliked about the TVR was its lack of AC and I seriously looked at retrofitting it.

Interesting. The TVR kit wasn't as much as that. You can buy retrofit for the Land Rover, but like the one above, it's £3k.

Went out with the TVR lads for a run today. Went up to Kielder via Otterburn for a coffee and back down the military road. Having not driven the MX-5 in anger very much and not for a long time, I had forgotten how much fun it is.
OK, it doesn't have the noise, presence and power of the TVRs, but it can hold its own around the twisty bits. You have to wring its neck - it comes on cam about 4000rpm and above and you can really get it to move if you keep the revs up. My only complaint is that considering it has 6 speeds, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear could do with being shorter for better pickup, but I am probably being picky. AC is still blowing lovely and cold and that is a nice thing to have on a warm day.
I am treating it to a full service as it is approaching 60k miles, so that includes a set of expensive Iridium plugs in addition to the usual oil and filters. I have also bought an MX5parts.co.uk rear silencer which should help on the lack of noise issue. I'm hoping it sounds OK. I am going to give it a good clean after that as well as the roof is a little green in places as are the door seals and shuts.

Not really, it's just getting some overdue love. I want to do the wheels too as they are really scruffy.

Maybe a new air intake/filter set up, too, for a bit of induction noise?

It's got a K&N panel filter already. I'm not sure an induction kit would be any better. I may look into it.

Finally got around to fitting the new stainless rear silencer this morning. Took it for a drive and I quite like it. It isn't too loud, although it is quite bassy around 3k rpm. It has a nice sound higher up the rev range. Looks miles better too!

A nice little mod.

Well overdue service done. It has missed a couple of oil changes - mainly down to the fact it hasn't done many miles.
Anyway, 60k miles is nearly upon it, so a full service, oil, filters and spark plugs just done.

Finally got around to having a look at the suspension settings today. When I had the car refreshed 2-3 years ago, it was fitted with a set of Tein coilovers.
The garage owner set it up "slightly softer than I would have it". It was firm, but handled like it was on rails.
The roads have been getting steadily worse and we've been getting older and more grumpy about the hard ride. The garage I used builds racecars and he knows about suspension setup, but it was getting tiring for daily use.
Teins have 32 clicks - one knob adjusts compression and rebound. Fronts were set on 12 and the rears 14. I would hate to see what 32 felt like.
I've wound them back to 6 and 7 front and back. It now has TVR ride quality - it has lost the horrible jiggle that rough roads caused and rides rather nicely. On road handling doesn't seem affected as in all honesty, it doesn't get driven that hard. I think it could do with a couple of clicks harder as rebound is a little soft, but we are going to see how it goes.
Including removing and refitting the strut brace to access the adjusters, it took 10 minutes. Wish I had done it three years ago.
