Usually fiddly, but on this occasion Skoda has won a sale off the back of the Octavia that Avis gave us in Norway for two weeks in June.
My wife's aunt and uncle came with us on the trip and were so impressed with the Octavia that they have just agreed to trade their owned-from-new 2014 Citroen C4 for a new Kamiq.
They went in to look at a Scala but decided like most people who are about to turn 70 that they preferred the higher hip point of the taller car.
I wonder how often people end up buying a car based on randomly having had one as a rental.
My wife has a lasting fondness for Clios ever since renting one for a month a few years ago.

It wasn't uncommon for people to rent cars they were thinking of buying to get a good feeling for them.
I wish Skoda still did the Yeti, we would upgrade ours if they did, as nice as the Kamiq/Karoq are they aren't half dull!

And they had also been considering some fearful bit of awkwardly styled Asian white goods called a Hyundai Bayon, so surely a Kamiq is less dull than that.

I bought the Mini having had one as a courtesy car.
SiL made the same Scala v Kamiq decision. Both are great to be fair (I’ve driven both as rentals).

Are Skodas now more popular then their VW cousins? Excluding things like the Golf GTi and R models, with the vanilla stuff Skodas range seems more appealing.

Yes the M135i came about after having a lesser 1-series as a rental, and I definitely revised my opinion on Minis after having one a a rental for two weeks in Italy one summer pre-Covid (by pure coincidence in the same shade of Moonwalk Grey as the one we now own).

Having hire cars can definitely help you decide about a car.
My first modern Skoda was a 1.9Tdi Octavia hired in France. Went like stink (relatively for a diesel at the time), stupidly economical on fuel and comfy to boot. Converted me not only to seeing Skoda in a new light, but to the 1.9PD diesel lump as a really good motor for day to day use. Mrs PG was so impressed her second A3 was a Tdi130 rather than a petrol!
