A couple of years ago we had a mains water leak where the end of the drive meets the pavement - despite various dire "its your land so you may have to pay" emails from the water board, they agreed to fix it, taking up a bit of the drive but mostly a 2-3m wide section of pavement.
Well today the same team of guys are back! We had no comms about it, but apparantly the council somehow deemed the work substandard, because it has dropped below pavement level. By about 2mm, and a gently curving 2mm at that. So they are now noisily digging up the road outside to re-do this repair.
Meanwhile, there are endless holes in pavements and roads all around, some of them so bad they could kill me on the bike if I'm not paying attention, which no one mends for months or years on end..............................

Our local 'speciality', apart from the potholes of course, is signs that have been blown over during recent storms and just left.
So, not only are you as a driver not warned of the upcoming corner, junction, speed limit change, etc the physical sign is lying on the verge with all the sharp edges and injury creating opportunities should some unfortunate cyclist or motorcyclist take a dive at that spot.
I know the posts rot but surely the council or roads authority not be prepared for that?
There's a particular large sign near me where 1 leg has rotted and snapped completely but the other is still intact albeit folded at a weak point so the sign is sitting almost, but not quite, horizontal with the verge.
