Very swish! I wouldn't fancy stumbling through there after a few drinks, you'd end up in the piranha pond!

Looks more like Kanaga’s island place. Mind the alligators!

We’re just back from a two week (16 nights) road trip in Norway, starting in Tromsø and ending in Oslo, via the Lofoten, Værøy, Bodø, Mosjøen, Trondheim, Ålesund, Lærdal, Bergen and Dalen.
3,500kms all told.
Magnificent scenery - jaw-dropping vistas at practically every turn. The western fjords between Ålesund and Bergen are stunning but the Lofoten are on another level - looks like God took the Dolomites and half-sank them in North Atlantic. Will do a proper write-up, but it was a fantastic trip.

Checked into the hotel earlier and half expected to see Blofeld! Nice Hotel, We went for an awesome meal there there in the posh restaurant on site when I was on a work trip a few weeks ago. The lobby was something else but I was thinking, where I have I seen this before.

They have 2 x Michelin star restaurants. Was it the one a level below reception? We ate there one night, just the two of us though, left my 18 year old in charge with room service! Not a place for kids and it was 170 euro a person for the tasting menu plus a bottle of wine and a couple of cocktails….

In all seriousness one of her cousins took a rented campervan trip similar to yours with their two kids for their first ever holiday out of SK or Croatia!

I’ve never done a cruise, but intrigued by one . The P+O Fjords one does look tempting

If you choose the right one you'd even get to leave from picturesque Dundee, surely the perfect start to such a cruise

I quite fancy a similar trip and had suggested to Mrs Tim we go from here via the Eurotunnel then drive far enough up to see the Northern Lights then return.

I never get out of the car on the train.
You must be pretty tight for width going down the carriages though?

I never get out of the car on the train. You must be pretty tight for width going down the carriages though? When I put the registration during the booking process it came up as ‘low ground clearance’ so it put me into the carriages for high cars / caravans etc. I would have tried my luck with that anyway, it was stressful enough fitting a 5 series in the standard carriage. It’s the ‘jinks’ that are the problem. No issues today.

Yep. The Gorilla was a stress in those squeeze points with its wider track. By contrast it makes Eva feel slightly easier. I’ll let you know in a couple of weeks time. Back to holidays: stopping at Český Krumlov on the way east this year. It’s proper Tintin-esque in terms of what Central Europe looks like and I can’t wait. www.ckrumlov.info/en/cesky-krumlov/

Looks nice. The view over the city from Prague castle is similarly full of red roofs.
Have you been to Karlovy Vary?

Too far north for us. SiL is in Moravia. Only getting to go to České Krumlov because I engineered the journey. I should plan to stop at Ingolstadt to see my brother as well.

Are you going to go via Liepzig so you can do a Porsche driving day experience at the factory there?

Are you going to go via Liepzig so you can do a Porsche driving day experience at the factory there? Alas no. Again; too far north. We drive the southern loop, so to Brussels on to Frankfurt then the A3 through Bayern to Passau. I am desperate for a road trip I am not pressured to "get to the destination" on. 3-4 weeks of non-motorway driving across and around Europe would suit me no end. It doesn't help that my fellow motorcyclist Royal Automobile Club members are often sending pictures from bike tours across South America, Japan, Asia and Europe.

I'm really desperate for a road trip as well! The aborted Scotland trip was supposed to be a start. But Europe is a different feel again.... Annoyingly Tina was not interested in a without kids (she only has them half the time) road trip holiday last summer and again this year. The one through France to Switzerland then back through Germany the year before was awesome. And (assuming its not going to be a little bitch again and break down) the Alfa needs some big wide open roads time.

It wasn't a especially long road trip (750 miles), but the first time I've taken a car across to France in 7 years, which means I missed taking the 750 and Range Rover after two trips in the 535d. The Panamera was fantastic, comfortable (ride and seats) with a good range (easy 500+ miles without charging at 130kph ish) and you appreciate things like cooled seats and brilliant stereo even more on longer journeys. Not worth charging away from home normally as the cost/benefit isn't worth it, but we had a couple of nights at the New York Marvel hotel in Disney and they had c20 EV chargers, all FOC with no time limit and less than 50% in use at any one time so had a top up before heading to Amiens. I haven't been on a proper road trip since July 2010, when we went to a wedding in Orvieto visiting Milan/Maranello/Florence/Geneva/Lucerne/Chamonix on the way. That was a great trip.

We've got a road trip to Czech in late November. That'll be 2500 miles. Hopefully this time I can overcome my suspicion that a wheel bearing is on the way out (if it had genuinely been whirring last December then it would've got worse by now!) and realise its down to the winter tyres and therefore I can utilise the, er, benefits of some unrestricted Autobahn for the first time

Not a massive road trip, but we are heading over to Normandy in August, them making our way down to the Dordogne, then going to make our way back via the Loire valley.
Really the sort of trip the Benz was made for, so should be relatively straightforward.
