D300 Dynamic SE Varesine Blue, Ebony Interior It has some options: 22” Style 5127 Black Pack Sliding panoramic roof Privacy Glass Centre console fridge Gesture Tailgate Park Assist Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control Soft door close Ventilated seats front and rear This is a 24MY car – so all of climate knobs and centre console buttons have been removed and added to the touch screen. The touch screen itself looks very pretty and is lighting fast, but it has a haptic feature and you need to push the icon like a button, otherwise it doesn’t register…..for the first 20 miles I thought it was broken. I assume this is one of the answers for “ I’ll take – things that no one asked for – for ten point please Bob “. It is really nice to drive though and a big improvement over the outgoing car (handling, steering, powertrain installation and general refinement). Speaking of which, after 22 months and 25k miles, the L494 went back with no blots on it’s copy book.

Looks lovely - but I still can’t fathom the removal of buttons - it is placing the company ahead of the customer and that is a trend I’m not in approval of.
Enjoy every imperious mile

Great car, well done. I find both the outside and inside to minimalist but think the Sport is the nicest RR. Enjoy many happy miles.

What version is that? I assume it's a Sport but wasn't sure from the pics. The removal of buttons isn't exactly a step forward in vehicle safety. I know it allows them to build them more cheaply and makes them more upgradeable by just using software to add features, but really what was wrong with physical buttons?

That’s a nice colour combination.
Removing all the climate controls and buttons is a big mistake imo. I know it saves money, but it’s a pain and removes one of the points of difference from a luxury car. I’ve got volume control on the steering wheel but quite often use the metal rotary control on the centre console just because it’s such a nice thing.

Sorry - yes this is the new RRS.
I can't fathom the button/knob removal either - aside from the reasons already called out, it's a lost opportunity to display some design flair and craftsmanship (or sweat the tooling already paid for).

It looks lovely but agree on the retrograde step and obsession with touch screens...part of what sold the Evoque was the split dash, moveable screen and physical heater controls all looking a great bit of design. The new 24MY is an iPad plonked on and would stop me getting another one

It does look lovely, but I'm another dead against the iPad design.

I like the look of the new RRS but they are huge. Another vote against the removal of buttons for the basic heating and ventilation controls - these are things you need to change on the move and a screen simply isn't safe.

I'm another against the removal of buttons but qualify it with I rarely touch the temp or ventilation controls in my car anyway so maybe it wouldn't be as big an issue as I think.

Nice - I see a fair few of the new full fat RR around and they are a very elegant thing!
The dealership I bought the Alfa from, had two RR next to each other for £120k and £200k, and further back two SVR F Paces next to each other (at only £96k each, I'd have gone that way). Clearly "cost of living crisis" is a relative term.
Lack of buttons is a safety issue, pure and simple . I found myself wandering about lanes in the Tesla in Florida, searching for things that really ought to be easy to find - and on a button. I'm a fiddler - I adjust anything I think is sub optimal from temperature to volume to air con, regularly. People like me may all end up dead or in jail for wiping out a bus queue the way cars are going...

Is this stuff not supposed to be done by voice control when moving? I appreciate hardly anyone does, but it is theoretically safer than knob fiddling.

It awaits to be seen what happens, at what should be the bespoke end (Rolls / Maybach etc), when specifiers finally work out that a screen with same build and tech as a five year old’s tablet device is neither premium or bespoke.

I use voice control regularly (button on wheel to activate, can’t bring myself to say “hey Porsche”) and it does work, but sometimes it’s easier to press a button eg cooled seat, soften the suspension when in Sport etc.

One solution would be to ask your wife / partner to do the knob fiddling for you while you drive... I really can't agree with that kind of stuff when you are driving. However I heard yesterday of someone caught on a nationwide zoom call at lunchtime when their secretary came in to perform such assistance and the camera wasn't turned off!

Very valid concern - at least bespoke manufacturers can top and tail someone else's system, but your standard premium makes are using the same interfaces in their entry level product all the way to their 6 figure models. They look and feel identical - and as more switchgear is swapped out, it's getting more homogenous. If you look at an early noughties touchscreen now, they are archaic - but I assume given the improvements in graphics, the current systems will take longer to age.

Problem 1 is that the premium models look the same as basic ones, but the bigger problem is that when its 10 years old and someone still wants silly cash for it, it looks utterly gash. If I was super wealthy, I would have a Bentley Continental for the interior alone. The solution of having a rotary dash that has beautiful traditional dials on one side, and a touchcsreen on the other, is sublime and when the screen ages, you just never turn it that way!!

The shock of the new was pretty high when first seeing the new FFRR and RRS, but that's calmed down and I'm getting used to the super-clean look they've gone for.
Yes another "why TF have they removed the buttons / rotary dials?" vote here. But I guess that one flat screen, v flat screen + rotary dials + buttons + lower aircon controls is a big cost saving and simpler to tool up for.
I did see a picture of the screen and it does show that seemed to show that the climate control temp graphic is always available at the corners of the screen, so if that's right at least the cotrols are not buried in a sub menu, but that's hardly a "oh OK then" solution.

Looks good - although I do prefer the new Range Rover to the sport looks wise
off topic , but why does JLR put black badges on black cars ? I saw a black F-pace in a supermarket car park yesterday and it had black badges. You could only really see when you got quite close . Wtf is that all about

That would be the black pack giving black badges, I have it on my black Evoque because I did want copper highlights!

A few notes following some time behind the wheel.
Refinement is next level, this is such a smooth and quiet machine.
Handling (particularly roll suppression and steering precision and weighting) is much improved.
In dynamic mode, there is some enhanced engine noise that gives a decent growl, not dissimilar to a v8 (which I like).
Even in its box fresh state, it feels livelier than the outgoing car.
In light of all of the above, I’ve quite enjoyed punting it about.

Please don’t leave it in any multi-storey carparks. We don’t need any more catching fire…
I’m sure it’s a nice car to travel in but the styling just doesn’t do it for me. I particularly dislike the back.
Mind you I don’t particularly like the new full fat RR either.
