I don't mind the Lexus styling - far from traditionally 'attractive/pretty' for sure but, as I've probably said before, at least they are different and stand out. The interiors tend to be very good but for me I think the gearbox would be the biggest issue - though for your mums needs it may well be perfect - I hope she likes it You sound like a BMW designer! Yes, a CVT would make anything a non starter for me (it ruined the GS 450h I drove about 9 years ago), but I'm sure it will be fine for RR's mum. Lol - I draw the (badly executed) line at that comparison!!! I'd rather a modern lexus design than most of the BMW alternatives - and that's coming from someone who's typically been a big fan of BMW as a brand in the past. The link to the UX did make me quickly search their stock for LC500's though

Wow that was fast work too! We don't hang about on here Quite different colours but I really like that. Tina and I went car shopping for her at the weekend and she test drive a brand new Tesla 3, but the 3 year old one she looked at was not to her liking (the interior is much worse on the older ones). She may test drive a 33e saloon as well (also 3 years old, and also nigh on £30k). The A5 is great, I'm not sure what she is up to really, but most of her trips are short so hybrid or electric would suit - and she does like to change her cars a lot more than me! My Jag has sat next to her Q3, 1 series cabriolet, and A5 for some time each...

Not having properly sampled a hybrid before I was really impressed with the Lexus. On the short trips around the villages, which my mother will be doing a lot of the time, I expect it will be running silently on electric most of the time.

Looks good James
If it’s still on the forecourt on the row nearest the road then I drove past it this morning

I’m a bit of a hybrid convert, it is very pleasant wafting around on electric power and even better when you’re in stop/start traffic. It also means a bigger contrast when the proper engine kicks in, so while I’m more pro hybrid than I was, I’m still not interested in full EV. Is the Lexus a plug in hybrid?

It looks like a good choice and a refreshing change from the usual options.

It's a self-charging hybrid which is the best option for her. I can't see her fiddling about with a charging cable and with the Lexus she just has to select Drive and the car does the rest.

I thought it was and as you say, makes sense. It was your comment about being in electric most of the time that threw me.

How far do the self charging hybrids go on electric only, or is it just starting off?

It starts off, then I think will only do two or three miles but if bumbling around town the engine, when it does cut in, will often only be idling for a while to generate some more charge. The engine kicks in more forcefully in when you properly ask for some extra beans. Apparently it will run up to about about 72 MPH on electric, but I doubt it would last for long at that speed.

The car was collected today. My brother rode shotgun and described it as one of the most comfortable cars in which he has ever ridden, and he drives a Volvo S80 Executive. Looks like it is going to be a success.

Fantastic.
I’ve watched a fair few Lexus reviews over the years (not related to my recent test drive) and one thing that tends to come out is the attention to detail, real world usability and not following the crowd - comfort & minimal NVH being one aspect in which they seem to forge a slightly different path to the usual premium suspects (perhaps Volvo aside)

Lovely.
These are completely off my car-radar but this would be ideal for W2.1.

Cars that don't win a group test, but you can still see a reason to own...
