Yes, I've seen it and it looks a nice thing but it's too big and too thick for me. Twelfth - I don't think there's any real need to buy a watch winder for automatic watches other than if you want to avoid the (very slight) effort of setting the watch before wearing it. If anything, they will accelerate the need for a service rather than overcome a risk of anything drying out or seizing up. The money saved on a watch winder can go towards buying another watch I have bought one more this year. Two will probably get sold. Have you seen the LIV Rebel in Gulf and Le Mans colour schemes?

It's a lovely watch, I'd take mine in the orange and black scheme. Just had a look on their site - £951 for the AC blue version.

Why not just buy the quartz version for one third of the cost?

Why not just buy the quartz version for one third of the cost? That's a bit like coveting the 5.0L V8 Mustang and buying the 2.3 litre ecoboost.

But that would only be a good analogy if the two cars had exactly the same performance and both sounded the same.
Both watches look the same, tell the time in exactly the same way and both go tick. The Mustang twins only do the first one.

OK then, because one is a work of precision engineering and thing of beauty to be marvelled at and admired and the other is a souless silicon chip and a battery.

I must admit that I buy the quartz LIVs. Can't see the point in the price premium.

I wouldn't compare a mechanical watch with a quartz one no matter how accurate it was. I do have both types.
Whilst we're here I actually tried on the watch I covet the most (the Patek Philippe Gondolo 8-day) - or should I say coveted. It wasn't the blue faced model so that didn't help much as I was decidedly underwhelmed by £40k of something I now can't be arsed about. Looks better in the pictures is the kindest thing I'll say.

I couldn’t be rich enough to wear a £40k watch! Most of my watches come to bad endings ( I’ve lost two in bike crashes and lost one in a lake). I’ve got a Rolex that was a gift many years ago, but I couldn’t immediately tell you where it is. A Casio G shock is the only long term survivor in my hands.

I've probably said it before, but a watch to me is something that saves me having to get my phone out of my pocket to see what the time is. Nothing else. I have no desire to own more than one either.

Has anyone been wearing a watch during lockdown? I haven't except very occasionally. Yes. I wear a Garmin Forerunner which tracks steps, heart rate, distance, pace etc. It's become a crucial tool for maintaining fitness (and sanity) during lockdown. I'm averaging 11-12,000 steps per day which is actually slightly more than usual.

This is where watches, cars, motorbikes, jewellery, clothes, quails eggs etc. come together as one group of first world problems. Where we live we very probably genuinely don't need a car but we have two. I have several watches and wear one at a time and during lockdown almost none at all. My suits, dress shirts, fancy shoes are all gathering dust / moths and W2.1's tits haven't seen a bra in some months.

Indeed.
This morning I had to do a formal pitch to the CEO etc of a listed company earlier via Teams video meeting, and whilst we had pre-agreed no suits/ties required, today is the first day in nearly three months that I've worn a formal dress shirt.

I have a formal shirt and jacket hanging in my office. I had a ceo meeting last week so it was shirt, jacket and shorts for me!

I have to remember to keep the Zoom screen visible otherwise if I put up on screen a document I need to discuss, I can forget that I'm on video and might stand up...

I haven't bothered with the jacket but I have a couple of formal shirts hanging in the wardrobe for the more important meetings. I reckon I can wear one shirt for about 3 weeks since most meetings that I've worn it to are about an hour and there's maybe only 2 a week. The most formal I've been on the bottom half is black jeans, otherwise its normally shorts or jogging bottoms.

I generally only go near them when they're out in the open. We don't do walking around the bedrooms in clothes as a family - when the girls get older that might have to change but knowing their mum it will be my problem not theirs!

Best thing about MS Teams is that "choose a background" option. I could be on the toilet and look like I'm on the beach.....

I’m green screened with HD cameras and lighting in my office. I could rent it out as a porn studio out of office hours.

We use both but I find Zoom to be a much better video and audio quality. Teams also tends to go out of synch so I try to stick to the former. I like the backgrounds in Zoom as well - I had one meeting at work with the black ISIS flag gently fluttering in the breeze behind me. I also recorded some video of my empty office with me wandering in and out randomly then used it as the background so as I was talking an identical me appeared and looked over my shoulder before disappearing again. Freaked a couple of people out that did.

Ths version of Teams we use at work doesn't seem to support user-chosen backgrounds, unfortunately - only the ones that Microsoft offer. A great shame as I downloaded the "Cafe Rene" background from the BBC

Must admit, I do like the look of that Rebel. Even with the money I haven't spent in the past few months burning a hole in my bank account, I really can't justify it with 5 (I think) other watches in my wardrobe!
Althooouugghhh .. .. .. ..

One of my colleagues uses a stock photo of our floor of the office, devoid of any people, as his backdrop. It's really quite disconcerting.
I don't bother. When sat at my desk, the backdrop behind me is just of a plain wall adorned only by one entirely inoffensive Dutch landscape painting.

We’ve designed a virtual office backdrop that we use as our background when we are on external calls. I find it amusing how many kids/pets/partners make an appearance on a call. I also enjoy a nosey in the houses of some - was on a session recently to a team in the states and one women (who I’ve met in real life and she’s always very smartly dressed) lives like a tramp!

I'm surprised at how many people are sitting with their back to a window so you get a lot of glare and their hazy silhouette! I've also been surprised at how many external people we've conferenced with are comfortable wearing a t-shirt and hoodie, even city financier types. Perhaps they assume all people in Scotland are living in a cave
