Normal service is resumed with the PZeros. I was heading for a meeting yesterday along the M80 and then the M876 and it was chucking it down with the temperature 9.5 degrees according to the car. A pr*ck in a Range Rover was hogging the outside lane at just under 60 which let all the lorries pull into the outside lane at the bottom of every hill and slow everything down to less than 30mph at some points.
I digress. I eventually got an opportunity to pass said Range Rover and only changing down one gear and applying about half throttle, I had the rear tyres spinning up easily. When they say they are summer tyres, they mean proper warm summer tyres. I reckon they have done less than 1000 miles since new so have loads of tread but 9.5 degrees is hardly cold and is still too warm to go changing to winter tyres. Never again will I buy a set of PZero's! By coincidence I got an email from Michelin asking if I had bought the PS4S I had looked at nearly 3 months ago - I told them quite bluntly that because they didn't have any stock and had an up to 3 month wait, I was forced to buy elsewhere.

Its a real pisser, having to spend so much on tyres and knowing you have a compromised set up. Oh well. Maybe a few skids around a McDonalds car park will help to burn them off

Super happy with the PS4S. I've covered close to 600 miles in the Golf in the last week, a fair bit of that was on the motorway/dual carriageway (they are definitely quieter and more conformable), but thanks to the M6 being closed on Tuesday I was able to enjoy some of the Cheshire countryside and the steering is the biggest improvement. I won't go as fas as saying it feels like a different car, but it certainly feels like an upgraded/improved one.

Just put tyres on the Mondeo. The previous set had really low treads on them, almost at the limit and I noticed a difference in them in the car park at work- low speed corners were particularly good at displaying the issues. Anyway, my local place had 3 choices- Goodyears, Hankooks or Nexus, for €215,€195 and €155 a corner.
I got the Hankooks and have noticed an immediate improvement in ride quality- that’s only after about 500 metres, as I’m currently sitting in the car wash- no point in cleaning the car before the tyres are changed.
The X5 would have cost me about $220 a corner for run flats, can’t remember the profile but they were 20” wheels, and that included a warranty and free puncture repairs.
There’s a long way to go in Ireland before places start offering the same deals as those.

The Mini is on its new winter tyres and having now had a chance to drive a decent distance on them - from Fano to the Alps and back, they are pretty decent. Bridgestone Blizzak LM005s, as they were well-rated and on offer.

Bought a set of CrossClimate 2's for the Fiesta through BlackCircles this afternoon. MoT due next month and the fronts are getting decidedly worn on their outer edges. They are the original Contis, almost 25k old and date from at least September 2015 when the car was built. The plan was to change them last autumn but having the Polo around has slowed down my use of the Fiesta (along with bad weather restricting how much I go out at week-ends and covid restrictions going back a while....) It's only done about 1500 miles in the past year.
Oh - and super unleaded (E5 instead of the E10 muck) is over 20p per litre more expensive than regular unleaded. The price differential is becoming a bit of a joke

An excellent choice. The CC2s on the Benz never cease to amaze me. Not just in icy conditions, but on wet roads too. Approaching a wet section, bracing for the wheel to jerk as the car aquaplanes, absolutely nothing happens now, as the tyres confidently shrug off the roadside lake.

The CrossClimates I had fitted to the Captur have lasted very well so far, and not that my wife notices, provide a good ride and decent handling feel. I dropped the Fiesta off at lunchtime (Blackcircles offered the F1 Autocentre 10 minutes walk from work as a fitting option) despite the nominated time being 4:30pm. I told them that as I only worked round the corner it was easier for me to drop it off early and if they could fit it in during the afternoon, we'd both benefit. Sure enough when I arrived to pick it up at about 4:45pm it was all done, tracking OK and no attempt to charge extra for an alignment check or unnecessary adjustment. Initial thoughts after just a few miles are that the tyres feel more supple, the ride is better... but I won't be trying out the handling for a few hundred miles to give time for the mould release agents to wear away (running/bedding the tyres in). After the puncture fiasco with the Ka, 3 in 20 months and under 15k miles, the Fiesta went 24009 miles on the Contis it was supplied with, with no punctures or other tyre issues. Hopefully it will be dry on Saturday so I can check and see what pressures they gave the tyres; I did leave a piece of paper in the car with the settings but you never know if the tyre techies can read.......
