Nice to see that we create these sanctions with Russia and still provide aide to India. Admittedly its not a great deal but probably still enough to get homeless people of the street. Oh get me being all Daily Mail.

I thought the aid to India stopped some time ago. Something to do with the Indian government not knowing what to do with such a piddling amount and being the fifth largest growing economy in the world etc.

A pittance in the grand scheme of things but just enough to keep the angry mob raging

Brent crude and the US equivalent are back down to around $95/97 a barrel from the highs of $115/120 a week ago. Even if it drops back to around $75/80 what’s the bets that the new ‘normal’ will be around £1.60 instead of back to £1.40/1.45?

Hard to argue with that sort of profit growth. At least from their point of view.

It always goes up a lot quicker than it comes down.

I am sure the pterol retailers are already dusting off their usual reposnes. Oil goes up - "we have to buy at spot prices, so sorry we can't keep prices down" Oil goes down - "we are locked into supplies at the higher prices, ony after prices have been consistently lower will they start to feed through".
We tried to buy some heating oil yesterday - the tank is almost empty. There is a 500 litre maximum delivery; it will be in two weeks time; price cannot be confirmed until delivery.

Expert on the radio the other day predicting petrol @ £2.50 per litre and diesel £3 a litre. At that level the Government will be having a great time with a near doubling in fuel duty and VAT. I think that expert must own either a petrol station or a bike shop.

Local Tesco this moring was 172.9pp; for diesel. May have to bite the bullet soon rather than wait for prices to fall a bit, as I'm off to Embra tonight.

Filled my car up with morning at Tesco (£175.9) and it cost £122, even though it was 17 litres short of the capacity, so even at supermarket prices it could cost £150 to fill up now. Getting close to 30p per mile, although driving back I kept it under 75mph and it is 15-20% more economical.

What goes around comes around. Saw an article in the paper yesterday that said that fuel duty was introduced in 1909 at 3d per gallon. That's equivalent to about 34p per litre in today's money. The total price of fuel at the pumps today (a few days ago it was about £7 a gallon) is the same now as it was back in 1909 (1/- 3d = about 6p). Back in 1909 motoring was the preserve of the rich. Looks like we're going that way again then ....

Could only buy 500 litres and came in at 97 p / litre yesterday when delivered (+ 5% VAT on top). Way back in 1992 out first ever load of oil was 17p IIRC. Thank f&&& spring is arriving.

Drove past a couple of garages on the A19 Tues morning and diesel was £179.9 per litre. By yesterday we had got wind of the fact that there was going to be a cut in fuel duty of 5p so yesterday the price was £185.9, ready to be reduced to £180.9 after 6pm.

As an aside, I have been driving 10mph or so slower than usual - 50mph instead 60mph on my drives to work among other things to see what happens with the economy. I've gained over 2mpg from 27.5ish to 30mpg!

Can you even begin to imagine the hand-wringing and car-vandalism if something like this was even spoken of in the U.K.? I reckon a good 40% of Guardian readers would actually explode in some kind of mass spontaneous combustion episode at the thought car, and especially SUV, drivers would be given money to buy fuel with.

I've done most of the current tankful in ECO mode but according to the readout it's added 20 miles. I'm not sure how accurate that is. E.g. If I drive up the hill from the main road - about a mile - and keep the pointer in the blue the 'saving' still drops a couple of tenths. However if I drive up there in normal mode I'll probably boot it so I'm not quite sure how driving with a lighter foot actually reduces the saving - assuming it compares your driving in ECO with your normal style?

BMW Eco mode...things are bad, but not that bad! The OBC is pretty optimistic in my car, but even so, the 37.6 average I got keeping it under 75 going to Grays and back is just over 35mpg compared to an average since I bought it of 28.6mpg and c30mpg on a normal long run. I didn't use Eco mode....
