I thought deaths were way down even though infection is way up. A quick look at NHS England shows 204 people died yesterday who tested positive for covid and 3 had covid mentioned on their death certificate. The 204 deaths compares with circa 20 deaths on april 17th 2021. Roughly cases are up x35, hospital admissions are up x15 and deaths are up x10 when looking at government data from mid april 2021 to late march 2022. Remember it when you go to the ballot box...oh wait...Labour was keen on the restrictions too... My sister and her husband are lurgified at present, as is his mother who came down with it over the weekend, having lunched with my mother last Wednesday, two days before we went to stay with my mother for the weekend. So we're a bit concerned... My sister says it's been like having a particularly horrid dose of the flu and just when she finally crawled out of bed thinking the worst was over, it came back again for a second round. But she's crossing her fingers that now she's on the mend.

Well after two years of evading the plague, it’s finally caught me. Tested positive this morning. Felt a bit zonked yesterday evening and then developed sniffles overnight, so took a test and for the first time ever got a very strong and unambiguous result. Drat.

Sorry to hear Racing, hopefully its a milder strain you get.
I've currently got a non covid cold virus that is in the process of kicking my arse. I've been hanging since Monday

Bad luck Racing. I had the “no discernible effects” version. Hope the main type has become that.

Well this is Omicron a la Italiana, so let's see. Unfortunately, we had (a very nice) family Easter lunch at the house of some of my wife's relatives who live near Urbino, and they then sent word on Tuesday that the entire household had since come down with Covid. Apparently their symptoms were mild - just a bit of aches and fever, and sniffles. Which so far accords with how I'm feeling. I do understand the brain fog point though - just had a call with one of my team to go through his proposed comments on a document, and that was quite hard work.
So far my wife and my mother-in-law (Urbino is about 45 mins away and we went with her in her car) are still testing negative, but my wife has a ticklish throat so reckons she's on borrowed time.
Glad I didn't bother renting a car in the end!

Well after two years of evading the plague, it’s finally caught me.... We know several people who have evaded it for two years and been recently infected. Hope it's the mild version for you. It's getting closer to us too - the lady who is helping us with the horses at the moment tested positive last week and has been off since. We're still testing negative.....

So my mother in law now has it too but my wife is still testing negative. Seems quite mild, all told, so far.

We've avoided it for 2 years so far as well but a few folk at work have recently been infected, although I've still largely been WFH. We've got an indoor music thing in Glasgow for most of tomorrow though so I expect that'll be an excellent place to break our duck......

We had a weekend in Harrogate but on Sunday morning my wife didn't feel well and I had a bit of a cough. We did a LFT when we got home and both of us were positive. We took a PCR test on Monday morning and both of us confirmed as positive so we are at home for 10 days. I have virtually no symptoms except a slightly tickly throat but Susan has a sore head, bad cough and a throat that suggests she has been swallowing razor blades. She also can't sleep due to the coughing so she is a bit of a bear with a sore head!

Oof. I can sympathise. Today is day 8 for me and I took a test this morning, and it was still positive, albeit that the line is much fainter than it was. Wasn't really surprised since I am still a bit stuffed up and croaky, and woke up at 6am with a raging headache.
The surprising thing is that my wife is still fine and testing negative, so she clearly didn't catch it at the original lunch or from me or her mother, who she has been doing shopping for.
Rebooked our return flights for Tuesday, so fingers crossed am clear by then. Should be, by all accounts.

Glad to hear you are on the mend. Re your wife testing negative, it does seem weird who gets it and who does not. But then that's the case with all viruses really. Both times one of us has had proper flu, the other one has not been infected. The lady (she's 25 so is that still a "girl"?) who helps us with the horses has just come back after 14 days of testing positive. Her dad got the virus about 4 days after her. But her mother never had it at all.
