What's the going rate for a litre of super unleaded? I went in to the petrol station this morning and normal unleaded is 145.9 but super unleaded is 166.9. Since when has the difference been 21p. It wasn't long ago that the differential was between 6p and 8p/litre.
We are back to ridiculous fuel prices.

It’s about 9-10c a litre more expensive than regular in Dublin. Currently hovering around €1.79 which is about £1.52 a litre. Diesel is slightly cheaper. My last fill up in California was $4.99 and it was 30c a gallon more than regular. I’ve heard it’s over $5.00 in a lot of places there now in the 4 weeks since I left.

It’s mad at the moment. If I fill up with less than 100 miles range, I can’t go to pay at pump as it will be over £99 and that’s for standard diesel. Still using premium for the Golf as I’ve always done but that’s close to £80 to fill up (more if I go to Shell) and 18 months ago it was around £50.

What's the going rate for a litre of super unleaded? ... We are back to ridiculous fuel prices. Apart from avoiding motorway fuel, to be honest I pretty much don't look any more. It's too depressing / annoying / frustrating. If I need fuel I have to buy it. There must be some serious price gouging going on somewhere. But whether that is by the petrol forecourts, the distributors or the refiners is hard to tell.

Theres a lot more demand for E5 since E10 came about as a number of old cars can't run on E5. Add in simple profiteeing since the fuel panic buying.

Out of interest, I had a look in the Tesco local to here earlier (St. Rollox) Their diesel is 149.9ppl, 3ppl desrer than my local one at home. Unleaded there was 153.9, Momentum is 159.9ppl.
So, not as bad as your example John, but plenty bad enough.

The price of a barrel of oil has dropped by $10 ,the price of petrol has not dropped.
As always we are being bent over and fucked.

Tesco in Cupar is 141 for diesel but that's not helpful because the garage has been closed for 2 months while they refurbish it and they haven't changed the signs

Yeah but the oil being refined for today's petrol was purchased ages ago. Look at it this way, a 750ml glass bottle of Evian is £1.20 from Ocado, which is £1.60/litre. Evian don't even need to own a retail premises network to sell it. Petrol is dirt cheap.

Indeed.
The reality for me is the truck is £20 more to fill up than it was earlier in the year. Irritating, but not worth getting my knickers in a twist over.

Just round the corner from me, the local garage has been selling petrol at 146.9 and diesel at 149.9; a couple of weeks ago they went up 1p/litre each. Super petrol and super diesel have been 162.9 / 164.9 but I've not seen how much they have risen.
There's another garage of the same fuel brand about a couple of miles away and when I passed them last Saturday they were still at 146.9 / 149.9 If I thought that the local garage was taking the mickey, we were sent home mid-morning on Monday because the power went off at about 10am (it didn't come back on until almost 5pm by which time everyone had gone and they had locked up for the night); I needed fuel so stopped at a BP station a little out of my way home, diesel was 152.9 there! Shall not be going there again in a hurry

You do have to shop about a bit. There is a cartel in Consett. Tesco, Morrisons and Esso are nearly always the same price and significantly higher than anywhere else.
A few miles up the road, Shell Corbridge is usually significantly cheaper and the same can be said for Tow Law Service Station in the opposite direction.
Both garages in Hexham are a fortune and always have been.

Diesel in Liverpool is an average of 1.46 per litre, ASDA being the cheapest at 1.42.
It's about 5-10p more per litre near where I live, so I only fill up near or on the way to work now.

159.9 in Texaco today for Super, 44 litres at over £70. I've never really worried about economy but my average at 19MPG is gettin a little steep.

When the fuel prices fell due to covid, I could go from a quarter full to full for about £60. Now it is nearly £90.
On its own £30 isn't a fortune but £90 just begins to feel a bit more painful.

You need to make more use of the iPace! Cheapest I've seen recently was £1.44 when I filled up at Tesco in Horsham a couple of weekends ago. I've been mostly working in London since so haven't used the car much but I'm down to 50miles of range so I'll probably fill up tomorrow morning.

1.46 at Fir Tree this afternoon. Tow Law was 1.48, as was Shell in Darlington. Don't need fuel until next week in any case.

You need to make more use of the iPace! We do. The i-Pace is currently doing twice the mileage of the M5. I see that the BBC currently have an article on their website slating the fuel retailers for the high prices. Apparently they are making up to 20p/litre. When I used to do the accounts for a petrol station chain about 15 years ago, they were only making about 2p/3p per litre and still had the money to drive Porsche's, big Mercs and live in lovely houses. The business was also attractive enough that someone paid many millions to buy it.

I wonder if they're using it to make up for some of the losses they suffered due to massively reduced sales during lockdown when all the commuters were working from home. Other businesses have had to do similar, particularly in the hospitality industry.

It is obviously due to something along those lines but the government is very quiet about price fixing and fleecing the punters when it suits.

I am pleased to say that my local Shell station has reduced the price of V Power to 160.5p/litre. Still a fortune but at least it is headed in the right direction.

I got hit by this when I chose Shell not Tesco to fill up the Boxster with Super, and when the unleaded was 150p the Super was 167p!!!! I saw consumer groups complaining this week that supermarkets in particular were profiteering from fuel and not passing oil price savings on, to the tune of up to 20ppl, which in a market with normally tiny margins would be incredible.
You can imagine straight fuel retailers must have had a crappy time with people driving less due to COVID - but the bloody supermarkets did better because of it, for a long time they were the only shops open and people were buying all their non-food items in volumes not seem before. And buying out all their delivery slots. On top of that, profiteering on fuel seems harsh...

Did the first real hybrid journey yesterday: into Westminster, then across to Fitzrovia a couple of hours later. Charged 100% before leaving. Dashboard looked like this on the way home: Couple of things to note: ~ Eva won’t register more than 90mpg. ~ Battery mile/kWh is a poor measurement criteria in London. ~ Average speed is still 12mph despite any kind of pandemic effect. ~ The WLTP range of 30miles is a reflection of hybrid driving. That last comment means that it will do 30miles on their predetermined hybrid cycle but the battery will not do 30 miles driving on electric only. As you can see there I’ve done 12 miles on electric. At that point it still showed 10 miles more. At the start of the journey and 100% charged it said 17miles so accounting for my London Traffic scenario you can see why they can claim 30. A point worth considering when looking at 50+ mile claims by other hybrids.

Prices appear to be falling again. Filled up yesterday before heading East through the fog, both diesel and E10 were 142.9ppl.
It'd be nice if the price kept going down .. .. ..
