3 races on 3 consecutive weekends, so let's have one thread for the November action. Will the championship be decided this month or will we have to wait until almost the year end to find out who wins? Alternatively, hijack the thread by rambling on about motorbikes........

I reckon it only needs one more win for Max and he has the championship in the bag. However Valteri might be requested to make a move on Max to make him a non finisher in which case the pendulum swings the other way. One way or another I think the next three races decide the title.
What I really don't want to see is a Senna/Prost, Schumacher/Hill situation where they go in to the last race with one driver marginally ahead and the one with the Championship lead just takes the other one out - that should get a 25 point deduction.

Considering the risk to drivers and marshals, that sort of thing should get an instant life ban. IMHO, Max deliberately took Lewis out. From his viewpoint, payback for Silverstone.

Max is widely touted as favourite this weekend. He must be spitting feathers as he's now sure to crash / break down / lose a wheel / veer in to the crowd / get distracted by a sombrero. There is a MotoGP in Portugal this weekend. The MotoGP title was won last time out and this weekend both the Moto2 and Moto3 titles could be won. I want Pedro Acosta to win the Moto3 championship, simply because he's been off-the-scale-amazeballs for a 16 year old in his first year on the big circus (although he was the best rider in the younger category last year) and he's in Moto2 next year so taking the Moto3 title up open class is the best way. His main title rival (only, since Sergio Garcia sat the last race out injured, thus losing any chance of catching Pedro) Dennis Foggia has had as an amazing second half of the season as Pedro had first half, culminating in a real Spain v Italy battle in the smallest-bike class, as has been the way for decades. I will very likely only be watching the Moto3 live as it is the title battle I have followed most closely all year. 1drv.ms/v/s!Ar1o6Scm2wVxgeQG8OJJNoXtgbLy4wThat video shows the massive accident that Pedro had two races ago, which has helped Foggia close the gap. Pedro is the rider that flies the furthest. I only shared this as no one was hurt, which is amazing, but it was a week after we'd lost a 15 year old in a European title race . Moto2 is between Wayne Gardner's son (I bet he loves being called that ) Remy Gardner and Raúl Fernández. Two races ago you wouldn't have given Raúl a chance but he's turned around Remy's advantage. I really want Raúl to win, mainly because I felt Wayne was a whiner when he was riding 500s (he complained when Doohan turned up and won a race over him on the same bike, to which Doohan said "what am I supposed to do? Not overtake him because he's Wayne Fucking Gardner?")and his son can taste some of that medicine for himself. Not pleasant but I assume he doesn't give a fuck what I think.

Is this the last time we see the Doctor in MotoGP? Is there another to come? I think either way Vale will be glad to go after this season, what a comedown for such a champ.

Even my mate, who is an ardent Rossi fan, is of the opinion he should have bowed out with a little more grace a couple of seasons ago. Still in the running (top 2, minimum) for GOAT though!

Last race is Valencia, so a couple more.
Vale is the new Agostini, with his VR46 team, training camp and whole ethos set-up. Ago was team Chief for Eddie in the Yamaha-Honda-Yamaha-Honda alternating title years of the 80s. Everyone will go ballistic if a VR46 rider wins the MotoGP title. More so if his half brother, Luca Marini starts winning. He’s having a strong end to his first senior class season.

What a change Sau Palo has been compared to Mexico so far. We're at a proper race circuit, not a car park connected by straights. The Rodriguez circuit used to be great, a bit like Interlagos; fast, furious and short. Now we're lumbered with a circuit with needless chicanes and slow sections. That so-called stadium section is aimed at fans, any real fan would want the Peraltada back, that stadium-section does nothing for racing at all. I did like the cherry-picked highlight reel they showed before each session last week, it showed Verstappen passing Bottas in the stadium. So that is one overtake since 2015, you have to despair sometimes at F1. Its not only F1 races, Porsche Supercup raced there for a few years and it was similarly a procession.
For Abu Dhabi they are going to ditch a few of the dreadful chicanes and needlessly slow sections, its only taken them over a decade to realise it. Hopefully with Mexico F1 realises a lot sooner.

I’m not a Lewis fan-boy but he’s head, shoulders and waist above the rest.
In motogp: amazing scenes at the end of the race - every single rider stopped at turn 2 for Vale’s farewell.

The whole weekend has been a roller coaster. How Lewis came back from that lot I know not. That Max got away with so much, ditto. Not going to be able to sleep for a while after that anyway.

This weekend was epic and Hamilton was on another level, put to the back of the Sprint, up to 5th, put back to 10th for the actual race and then wins, unbelievable, Max being his usual self and forcing him off the road, anyone else that would have been a penalty, anyway Hamilton on the back foot and under pressure is a force to be reckoned with.
Really hope Hamilton nails it, just to see Verstappen sulking and you know what I think Hamilton will nail it this year now, it will be close but he has the experience and race craft.
I put £10 on Hamilton to win on pretty average odds, as it was a new account I also got £30 in freebies, I put them all on Hamilton too and won £110.00.
I did also put a tenner on Bottas (25/1) when he was running 3rd and it was getting a bit juicy upfront, just in case as I could see a coming together!

It was hard racing by Verstappen and you can well argue that it is exactly what we want to see but equally I don't understand the inconsistent approach from the race stewards that has seen other drivers penalised for the same offense that Max once again got away with. Had Lewis done as Max did at Silverstone and turned in he would have been rammed off the road and likely forced into retirement. I know that at Silverstone Max did end up crashing but Lewis was penalised with a 5 second penalty for the act of not getting the apex and forcing Max off so how is Max not penalised for forcing Lewis off. As I say, it's not that I want penalties being dished out for hard racing but if they are going to be a bit of consistency wouldn't go amiss and it does feel like Max gets away with it more than most.
Anyway it was immaterial in the end and great to see Lewis back to winning ways.

I can't stand the over analysis we now have, not just in F1 but appears in every sport.
I'm a big Rugby fan and it really suffers in this area. Being a former Tight Head the dark arts were all part of the game but now with cameras in every location nothing is missed. And of course in slow motion of from every angle everything looks worse. What would be made of the hand of God now or even the Hand of Back which is Rugbys equivalent.
If the ref makes a decision on the pitch then I stand with it and the same should be made of F1. If the stewards let the incident go at the time then lets not keep repeating the incident so a million armchair experts can have there say and then sway the FIA into offering up a penalty as some sort of token. If Liberty Media want more fan interaction, Instead of trial by social media, we should make the live audience the stewards and have a vote off (like driver of the day) to decide if a penalty should be given after each incident.

Instead of that fan boost idea, how about a core of stewards who have impartiality and remain constant. Travel to and adjudicate for every race. Even handed results rather than what looks good for the owners and backers of the system.

I'm wondering if Hamilton has been suffering from Long Covid as he mentioned at the start of the season, and he's only just got rid of it. His performances over the past 2 weeks have been on a different level to most of the rest of the season. Looks like we are in for a real grandstand finish to this year's racing

It's going to be tight. Max wasn't as far behind is it looked yesterday and managed fastest lap. I thought Lewis was going to be strong enough to nick the final point but maybe Merc were getting twitchy about tyre life.

I think Toto got it right when he said Lewis steps it up to “loony” when he feels there’s an injustice. After Horner’s comments about marshalls (or one anyway) and the sniping about moveable wings (from fucking Red Bull, that’s rich!) I hope RBR win nothing. Gracelessly contemptible.

Hamilton always performs better when under pressure, I think he'll get his 8th.
I've never warmed to Red Bull, this year though, Horner, Marko and Verstappen have been intolerable.

I used to like Red Bull and wanted Max to do well as he could be exciting to watch, but all the whinging has ended that. The comments about Lewis celebrating while Max was in hospital after him doing the same after the Grosjean accident was particularly poor and robust defending from Lewis is dangerous but Max is just racing hard….Max getting a 5 place penalty for ignoring yellow flags (which I agree wasn’t a penalty) is stewards picking in Max as usual, but Lewis going to be back of the grid for 0.2mm on part of the wing when Red Bull can fix theirs in park ferme is OK… Lewis has stepped it up and the Brazil engine goes back on for the last 2 races, I really hope he gets his 8th title, even though hpthe inevitable Red Bull whinging about the injustice of it all will drive me mad.

I just wonder if the Red Bull PR machine has picked up on the fact that their constant whinging is getting on everyone's nerves and now a large contingent don't want them to succeed. Time for some positive spin I think before they dig themselves a big hole.

We have the British bias with Hamilton so your not going to get reasoning from UK fans. Just look at the madness that goes on when discussing F1 on pistonheads. I imagine you get a more sensible discussion on a Football forum.
Anyways, I'm still hoping for Max to win the title this year. It'll be great to see a change for once. I'm with you all on the moaning but its no worse then F1's always been. Doesn't matter if your Redbull, Merc, Ferrari, mclaren etc if your on the back foot you need to try and create influence. Clearly the Merc is currently the faster car so its panic time down at RB. If your Horner I imagine the good old doctor and Dieter have given him a fair amount of pressure to get the championship over the line. I don't think a constructors will be much consolation

You’re correct about the British bias but I don’t think Lewis gets the same kind of unequivocal support that Mansell used to get. However what is amusing in F1 is that, aside from the red team, patriotic bias only follows the driver. Lewis drives for a German owned team led by an Austrian whereas Max drives for an Austrian owned team led by an Englishman yet we’re all moaning about the Englishman. So you’re right: a constructor title won’t cut the mustard.

It has to be the drivers championship for RB. No one remembers the year a constructor won the title, its all about the driver.
I dont see anything wrong with wanting Lewis to win due to my English bias. I'm English and I support our driver. Same way that when Arsenal played Liverpool over the weekend I wasn't rooting for the Scousers just because they play good football. But also I believe Lewis is the better and fairer driver. He's not always been squeaky clean but also he doesn't generally bully people off the track when getting past or being overtaken. Max has made it his modus operandi and as much as there's some excitement to be had from it, the move to take him and Hamilton off the track in Brazil just wasn't fair racing and remember that for all his greatness we still talk negatively about Schumacher for some of the moves he pulled off on his way to his championships so Max wouldn't have been deemed, in my eyes, to have deserved the championship if that had led to Lewis retiring.
OK in the end it didn't and Lewis got it done a few laps later but it doesn't mean it's OK and I totally understand other drivers who feel aggrieved to have received penalties for much less deliberate examples of the same move (Lando Norris on Perez springs to mind - some have argued that he sent Perez into gravel but that doesn't tally with the stewards saying its not the outcome of an incident that determines the penalty).

Nothing wrong with that at all, the point I was trying to make is that I'm sure if we were on a Dutch motoring forum having the same discussion it would be around Toto being a bell end and how Merc get all the decisions from the FIA, its just the way it is. On clean driving, see if Albon has the same opinion as you. (sorry couldn't resist) Think we all agree that the Norris Penalty was very harsh so I'll stick with 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Agree Ed re both points. The Albon crash wasn't great but I never said Lewis doesn't make mistakes or have incidents, of course he has but generally he is a clean racer and gives space to those around him.
Secondly yes absolutely Landos penalty was harsh so retrospectively applying the same to Max for the Brazil incident doesn't make it all OK. But the issue is the lack of consistency. The drivers want to know what they can and can't do. If they're in the same situation will they be penalised or not? The FIA need to set a rule and stick to it not just let different stewards make a judgement call when the consequences for the teams and drivers involved are so important. McLaren could argue that Landos penalty could be the difference in their battle with Ferrari for 3rd in the constructors standings which in turn has financial implications. Had Lewis been unable to overtake Max it could have been decisive for the drivers title. If under the rules both Lando and Max should have received no penalty then that's fine so long is its clear and not open to interpretation or the whims of Michael Massi.

The past few GP’s have been great. F1 is delivering this season; at the front, the midfield and off the race track too!
I think the drive from Hamilton in Brazil was special. One only needs to see how Bottas and sometimes Perez both get mired in a midfield train of cars, unable to overtake. Hamilton and Verstappen don’t have that issue. As for the turn four incident, I agree with Ed, there is too much analysis these days. But I think it’s the FIA’s fault, for handing out penalties for pretty trivial stuff, but inconsistently. And stuff like “forcing a car off the track” isn’t helpful, it’s never been defined, seemingly up to the random stewards to decide each weekend. Too many precedents not followed.
I didn’t have an issue with Verstappen’s move. Hamilton knew what was coming, that’s why he didn’t try and swipe across Verstappen’s nose despite the over-speed from DRS, and Hamilton knew he wouldn’t have made it out of the corner pointing in the right direction. What I take issue with, actually for the past two years, are the penalties for Norris and Hamilton at Spielberg. Both drivers were at the limit of grip themselves, neither driver opened the steering, if you want to pass around the outside, it’s a risk, and the pursuing driver knows that. We keep hearing that the outcome of incidents don’t affect the decisions, maybe I’m mistaken, but I struggle to entirely believe that. So if Perez hadn’t lost all of those positions in Spielberg, would there have been a penalty? I’m doubtful.
The vague statement was issued by the FIA doesn’t help, “let them race”. Bit rich, considering the level of penalties for quite minor incidents. I think there have been some improvements; the five or ten second penalties are preferable to drive-through penalties. Destroying someone’s race isn’t great for the show.
Unless it’s for something like Grosjean at Spa, I would end all penalties for supposed driving incidents. Nobody is trying to crash intentionally, the penalties that the FIA dish out are inconsistent, and create absurd over-analysis with team principals dialling up Masi to get someone penalised. It’s a never-ending problem.
Christian Horner does seem to have lost his marbles a tad. The claim about Mercedes’ straightline speed isn’t entirely backed up by evidence. He claims that since Hungary, they have noticed a significant increase in Merc’s top speed. At Austin the difference was 8 kp/h in the speed trap. Red Bull has historically run a draggy car, which obviously costs them on the straights. At Qatar, he was just talking nonsense. The reason why the Mercedes had a minimal top speed advantage is because the circuit layout was about downforce, not top speed, and obviously impacted the rear wing that Mercedes decided to use. Horner knows that, I suppose this is part of the fun and games that the big teams will play.
One area the FIA should hold firm on is policing of yellow flags. Far from being a rogue marshal, a double-waved yellow was entirely justified. Gasly was limping along the pit straight with debris flying off, Verstappen simply got caught out - as Bottas and Sainz did. Practically all drivers have been caught out by similar infringements over the years. What other marshal wouldn’t have waved a double-yellow flag in that situation? Red Bull didn’t help Verstappen in that respect, they almost fed Max’s belief that he did nothing wrong. The officiating of the circuit needs to be respected, and it won’t always advantage everybody, and neither should it. There is tribalism between both groups of fans; Verstappen and Hamilton. But it does appear that Verstappen has got god-like status with many, where even the slightest criticism is met with a torrent of abuse on social media. You only need to look at Tiff Needell’s Twitter to see it, when he isn’t even criticising Max. Verstappen is unbelievably good, like Hamilton, from the first day he showed up, you knew he was special. Verstappen hates to lose in wheel-to-wheel combat; he has an uncompromising style that has become his trademark. However at Silverstone, I feel he simply got out-raced by Hamilton’s late dummy into Copse. The consequences were huge, but I think it won’t be last time he gets biffed off. If someone else goes up against Max V, they have to wise up and race him like he races others.
